| 20 min is not sufficient but I do think it's a meaningful difference and a good start. |
They are very liberal and impractical so they will probably make everyone start at 10am and raise taxes to buy more busses and Union bus drivers. They can go ahead and can more extracurriculars, the troubled kids don't do those anyways. All is well. |
Actually it was the BOE's decision to put the magnet programs ai my far away in east county, dozens of miles away from the most qualified kids. Slick. I like it. |
DOZENS of miles? Well, maybe a dozen miles away, from the most affluent kids. |
+1! |
| Lots of well-qualified students in my Silver Spring neighborhood, not to mention at my child's HGC which is near both Eastern and Takoma Park. |
Then you take that up with the board. Don't ruin everyone else's morning/afternoons because you CHOSE to enter a magnet school far away. Your request is selfish and meaningless. |
I went to high school in the 80's and my first bell was 7:04am. And I went on to have a very productive life. I also remember working after school in the mall. Sports would end at 4pm, I would do homework, eat and work 2-3 shifts at the mall working 6-9:30pm. In bed by 11pm and up at 5:45am. On the days I didn't work, I remember napping after sports and before dinner. Or I would fall asleep by 10pm some nights. I bet no one's little snowflakes even work anymore. They are "so" busy. Parents still pay for everything. Also, I think everyone forgets that many parents use older siblings for childcare of their youngest. This can not happen if you flip the bell times. |
Me too! We are an ice hockey family and it gets busy but my kids sleep just fine. Maybe because they are active and tired, they sleep better. |
That is not enough sleep. |
Right, the rich kids are the most qualified kids. Got it. How is it that NOBODY on these threads seems to understand why magnets started in the first place? It's to PULL (hence the term magnet) kids from more affluent neighborhoods into a more transitional neighborhood. This is under the theory that the parents will be more involved and the very motivated and bright but somewhat lower SES kids from the neighborhood will benefit. That was the point. It wasn't supposed to be about your particular kid, so please come off it already. |

Today's Post reports that teachers oppose changing bell times.

| They will adopt the no cost options or retain current times. This is my prediction based on statements by the group that has been leading the push to change the times. |
The locations are a main pull for living in silver spring. I wouldn't go 10 exit miles on the beltway and up/down 270 for a school program in an overly huge county! The locations are chosen to attract homebuyers and bolster test scores. Everyone else can focus on their home schools. |
