DH bought 4yr son a nerf gun

Anonymous
I don't like guns, would never have one in my house.

My boys LOVE nerf guns, we've had more than a dozen over the years. Nerf guns are something a 16-year-old and a 10-year-old can enjoy together.

I grew up in a house without guns, never had any exposure to them whatsoever. Yet my brother and I had cap guns, played cops and robbers, cowboys and indians, etc. Both of us grew up to be law-abiding, non-carrying adults.

As someone noted above, no one in the history of the world has been killed by a nerf gun.

FWIW, long before nerf guns were introduced in my house, my then-3-year-old ate his pb&j sandwich into a gun shape. And one of my boys LOVES his army men and setting them up to play war. Children (boys) have done things like this for time immemorial.

Just because you don't like Nerf guns doesn't mean they should be banned. Of course your husband doesn't understand why you are mad, because it doesn't sound like you do a very good job of explaining yourself. You are quite dramatic though.

The Nerf laser tag guns are awesome. OP, chill out.

Nerf>bb>9MM>AR15>Sandy hook

It all starts with nerf. If we just implemented a nerf weaon ban or better nerf control this country wouldn't have all of these mass shootings.

I propose stricter nerf control.

My oldest shot her first gun at age four. A little Cricket single-bolt action .22 rifle. She's 10 now and is going hunting with hubby this fall. I'm SO proud of her! All of our kids, 10, 6 and 4 know how to handle guns and what the safety rules are as well as what to do when they find a weapon unattended (an unlikely event in our home - our guns are on our hips securely holstered or in the safe at night). This in an opportunity to teach your son about safety. Not to point a weapon at someone, respecting weapons, etc...

And yes, it's just a toy

Oy vey. Why don't you just have him castrated and make him wear a pink dress?

Seriously. You're going to emasculate this boy, turn him into a sissy. If you're not careful you'll end up with a faggot on your hands. And then what? That would really suck. People hate faggots.

He did agree to not give it to her until I said it was ok. She's 6 now and I'm not ok with it yet, but eventually I'll have to be, I guess. (Ex is former military and owns weapons, as do his dad and mine.)

The Queen of England isn't a red neck and she shoots.

I agree with this. It seems that when boys are expressing their masculinity some nanny-state waa-waa whiner has to step in and try to stop it. So what do boys learn? Act prissy and submissive like girls. My boys have nerf guns, toy knives, and they target shoot killing the bad guys. When they get older they get bb or pellet guns. Once they handle that, 20-gauge shotgun and .22-rifle. Then they will learn about making their own bullets, learn how gunpowder is made, how to make it, and so forth. NRA Membership soon.

They have the right to bear arms. To defend themselves against drug-addicted maniacs who kick in doors to rape and rob. Tyrants love to take away people's right to bear arms because then they can act unopposed. Read your history and see!

To those PPs who stated that they have no guns in their homes, do you mind posting your address? Sounds like a nice safe place to come by and do a little browsing for jewelry, electronics, cash, you know, whatever's lying around.... You won't need a gun, I'll bring mine!

Hey, OP.

If Nerf guns and video games contribute to violent gun culture then why has violent crime dropped so dramatically over the past few decades?

Nerf guns are fun. Let your husband enjoy playing with them with your kid.

I'm not a gun nut nor is my dh but by gawd we have a crap ton of nerf guns in our house. They are a blast. We also bought upgrade kits on line and painted and modified a gun for each kid so they have more precise guns with a little more punch. So awesome.

My kids haven't shot up a school or robbed a bank yet.

Nothing wrong with a kid being gay. Everything wrong with him being a gun nut, like you guys.

So the purpose of a gun is to be able to come to my home and take things? This is why guns need to be severely restricted.

Agree with your DH. What is the big deal?
