Racism goes both ways (and every way in between)

Because, if they weren’t, shouldn’t THEY have had to pay their tickets too? Did you miss the part where she said that she paid hers?

You are just as embarrassing as OP. Or are you OP?

Hmm hmm., right. OP, you were not mistreated. You simply weren't given preferential treatment you may be used to. You were speeding, got a ticket, had to pay. That is not mistreatment. Do you really need examples of true racism? Are you that removed from reality?

Nope, not the OP. Did you answer my question?

If this was an attempt to answer my question, you failed miserably. And, I am not the OP.

You are seriously embarrassing if you think you have the slightest idea of what true racism is. Entitled white person. (and I am white)

OK, white person..... Still not answering.... Here... I will repeat it for you.....The question is actually BOLDED. The rest is there for context.

OP here-I suspect that my ticket was not dismissed because I am white. Black people there with the same or greated traffic violations had their tickets dismissed. By the way-I lived with racism for much of my childhood. I lived in a majority black NYC area (think Bed Stuy-like where those 2 cops were killed), went to a school where I was the ONLY white kid in the class (plus 2 Hispanics with light skin). I was bullied, called names and beat up onanalmost daily basis. I went to college and grad school and chose a career helping underprivileged families and children in those very same neighborhoods. I have worked in agencies that have been majority Black-and yes-I have faced additional dicrimination due to my skin color. Hostile looks, nasty remarks, blatant disrespectful talk about White people in front of my face. Do NOT try to tell me it does not exist because I am one white person who lived it. It may be very easy for most of you who likely grew up in insulated, suburban white neighborhoods with and among the priviledged. Its easy to sit in a Bethesda and Chevy Chase MD/DC McMansions and spew all your liberal bullshit-why don't you try something-move to PG County (Lanham or Capitol Heights seem nice) or SE and send your kids to a local school (c'mon y'all can afford it). Try that and live it-then come back and inform us all what you have learned. (Oh and please forgive any spelling and/or grammatical errors as the foundation of my education pretty much sucked cause it was no W school-though I did manage to graduate from a top teir college!)

And I am FAR from entitled-worked my white ass off from age 12....put myself through college and paid my own student loans back with a real job! Any of the black kids I went to elementary and middle school with could have done the same!

Thanks for your perspective, OP. I am the other poster who posted the question above your message (17:53). I suspect the reason the previous poster did not answer my question is because she would have had to admit that the other people in court with you should also have had to pay their fines, but didn’t. And, by admitting this, would have to admit that you were mistreated, in a way. When the only white face in the crowd is the only one who is forced to pay the fine when the others were presumably guilty, there is an issue.
I also suspect that the previous poster is young, certainly liberal, and is on a campaign to end all social injustice in the world. A lofty goal, for sure. I am old enough to realize that things are so much better in this country than they used to be - not perfect, by any means, but much better. I suspect she was not even a twinkle in her parents eye when conditions in this country were deplorable for anyone of color.
I, too, have spent my career working with minority and poor children. My upbringing was different, but I have always lived in neighborhoods of mixed races.
Thank you for what you do.

Oh Lord
This same poster keeps posting on all race related threads about all the bad black kids that harassed them during their entire childhoods.

Now, this is a very thoughtful, mature response.

About 9 years ago I got one of those camera speeding tickets in DC-I went a tad above the 25 mile speed limit (which I was unaware of having recently moved to the area).

I went to court to fight the ticket. The case was heard by a an arbitrator (who happened to be a black female). I was in a room with about 25-30 black people who were there also fighting their various traffic tickets. They were a variety of ages ranging from teens to elderly, men and women, well dressed to looking like bums. I came dressednicely for court and with my infant in a Bjorn.

The arbitrator called everyone else first (not sure if this was random, purposeful or whatever, but if it were alphabetical, I would not have been last. I also arrived early for said court date so it was not because I was late).

The arbitrator DISMISSED each and every person's ticket who was there. One woman even had a double red light violation (coming and going on the same day). I was the only person whose ticket/case was NOT dismissed. (many other speeders who were going MUCH faster were dismissed).

This was clearly a case of rasism on the part of the arbitrator. I was furious. While I paid the ticket, I did call the supervisor over there and informed them of what had occurred. I only hope some action was taken to correct this arbitrator's behavior and blatant racism and abuse of her power.

Forgot to mention, I was the only white person in the courtroom, aside from my 7 month

You are an unreliable witness. No one gets a speeding camera ticket for going "a tad" over the limit.

That's not the point. Everyone was there because they were doing "a tad" over the limit regardless how you define "a tad".

I live in a SE low-income neighborhood and my neighbors have been very nice to me. In fact I was surprised at how friendly people are in my neighborhood. They're probably friendlier to black people but I can't complain because I got a pretty warm welcome when I moved in 12 years ago.

I believe that you did suffer from some prejudice due to your race but the fact is that I don't live in BCC and my kid went to majority black public schools for nine years and our experience has been nothing like yours.

Nice that this form of racism is all you've had to deal with OP. I am so sorry you had to pay your speeding ticket which you deserved because you were speeding. Racism has touched you in a truly awful way.

How bout getting your ass kicked and being called racist names on a daily basis in grades k-8? does that count for anything? or working in a predominantly black agency where your co-workers are spewing anti-white racist remarks not necessarily at you, but within earshot? I guess it is ok. We need to treat all of "them" with kid gloves because they are poor poor victims of the white man. Just like the way this Brandies student leader has been condoned for all her hate filled speech. Will post a link shortly. Racism against blacks is alive and well, but so is racism perpetrated by blacks!
