I would have found OP idiotic/disrespectful bringing a 7 month old to court. I went in Montgomery County to fight a traffic ticket and we couldn't even read papers during proceedings.

I have a colleague that just went to have a ticket arbitrated and she did mention that the arbitrator (not a judge) was dressed more casually than she would have expected.

How so?

1) I am acknowledging that Blacks can commit racist acts against Whites.
2) I am acknowledging that OP (assuming her story is accurate and she leaves off the bit about going 48 mph in a 15 mph school zone) was likely mistreated by the arbitrator both for being made to wait however many hours with a 7 month old infant and for not having her case dismissed as was the case with every other.
3) I will also add that when progressive Whites dismiss stories like this or add on things like "you were guilty anyway" (gee, isn't that what was said by the Defenders of Darren Wilson?), it does absolutely zero good -- it denies that Blacks have independent agency (and will sometimes use that agency to be complete assholes or racist on their own) among other things. Therefore, minimizing OP's story is in the same vein as telling a mugging victim, "Why were you in that neighborhood that evening?" OP was guilty of speeding. She was not guilty of anything that warranted her case getting the book thrown at her or of being made to wait until the end of the day (despite having an infant.)

I am acknowledging there exist cases where Black customers somehow get more scrutiny while shopping than comparable White customers. Hence, Shopping While Black. We can argue over the extent to which it does happen, but denying its existence is foolishness of the highest order.

Contempt of Cop is a real thing.

One example that didn't happen --
In 1998, I got pulled over on Route 29 north of Charlottesville for going 64 in the speed trap area where the limit is set to 45. The cop came over and asked, "So, do you know why I'm pulling you over?"

If I had said something like "Contributing to the Greene County general fund, sir," (and yes, that WAS on the tip of my tongue), I suspect I'd have ended up getting hauled to the station, and likely been slapped with reckless instead of a regular speeding ticket. Of course, the cop might have suddenly smelled marijuana or declared that golly, I was weaving in and out of my lane. Of course all that drama from the cop is unnecessary, I didn't make any threats implicit or explicit, I didn't attempt to harm the cop, but I was disrespecting his authoritay.

Now if I'd been Black, it's at least arguable that I'd have gotten roughed up or otherwise treated worse, or if I'd picked the Stormfront represenative in the Greene County Sheriff's office, I'd have been suddenly reaching into my waistbanda and had a gun pulled on me.

And I thank God every day that I got my education and got the fuck out of there (I feel sorry for all those left to suffer back in that hell-hole), I also quit my last job (you know the one with those racist co-workers, director and HR dept, cause working there was just as bad as living in Bed Stuy-I just had had it at that point) and decided to become a stay at home mom (like so many Black moms do)-so glad my spouse has a good job and can afford us that luxury. When I do return to work, I will very likely join the private sector (for the first time in my career) and work with a much different population (while making more than twice as much money while doing so). Sadly, it is not one of my underpriviledged, minority clients who have made me decide this (I truly loved working with each and every one of them), but the behavior and attitudes of the assholes like the ones "in power" at my last job (and those like that arbitrator "in power" 9 years ago) that make one stop and pause, and think about what true Racism is in America.......I'll be sure to vote Republican for the first time in my life too! OP here-how about having 10 little black kids take turns kicking your legs on a school trip in 3rd grade calling you Honky and Cracker while doing so, a trip you so looked foward to but was ruined by them? how about being a professional adult working in a so called professioal institution and having your black adult co-worker heating up some grilled corn on the cob and then telling the black director that white people never eat grilled corn and proceeding to imitate a white person, in an Elmer Fudd type voice saying "what the hell is this duh...Iv'e never see corn made like this"-laughing along with the black co-workers and black director all the while the few white folks look on in incredulity, surprise and horror (of course any complaints about this and similar antics were ignored by the black run greivance/HR department-as were the sexual harrassment complaints made on a separate occasion about the Black director of that same instition). How about being innocently asked by a black teen if you have horns on your head cause you are white (I forgive the kid as they are just a kid-but who the hell taught them such a thing?) they truly believed that "all white people had horns cause they were the devil". How about when you are in a store and smile at a black person in passing-as you would smile at anyone-only to be given a dirty look and then ignored. How about drivng through a not so great neighbornood with your infant sleeping in the car and getting a beer bottle thrown at your car-almost striking the back of your car where your infant was sleeping? Had I not hit the gas hard and gunned it my car definitely would have been struck....(not sure if it was due to being a white driver-but like most blacks do, one can assume)-How bout being followed by a group of black teens who were calling names like "white bitch" and throwing things like bottles, rocks, etc.... where you felt so threatened you had to run into a nearby building (which thankfully had a security guard) to get away. How about being in the car when your white spouse gets pulled over by a BLACK cop for a simple tailight that went out, and rolling down your window to politely explain that you were unaware of that, only to be yelled at to "shut the fuck up" and "put that fuckin window back up" -which I immediately did instead of disrespectfully back talking to the officer as he likely would have shot at my white ass too if I did not comply.
