PP here again, just to finish my thoughts on this as a gift: not a good one for a couple of reasons. 1) the thought behind the gift is amazing, but 2) the execution and aftermath can be dangerous.

In my case, there was a lot of build up and I was aware that it was happening so it is not like there was any element of surprise. We got proofs to review first electronically in order to decide which ones we'd get prints of or final touch ups. Wife and I spent hours looking at the proofs which was really cool because she looked super sexy. However, by the time we got the CD with the final 10 or so photos, I felt like I had already seen them all (in fact there were a few I liked better that didn't make the final cut). But I didn't know what to do at that point. It's not like I was surprised or seeing them for the first time, and it's not like we got prints or framed any them to display...where would we? Anyway, they do serve one purpose as it relates to my marriage...as a constant reminder to my wife that I didn't get excited about the final CD deliverable of the pictures even though we spent hours together looking at the proofs and even spent time together picking out what she'd wear to the shoot.

I'm the end. Not a good gift. But, yes, she did look awesome.

Sorry for the rambling rant DCUM, but this is actually a very sore topic in our marriage. Run like the wind if your DW ever offers this "present."

NP here - I have been contemplating taking pictures as an anniversary gift, but this thread pretty much dissuades me from doing so. I am super self-conscious about my body (especially after two kids). I'm back to my old weight, but things just aren't the same. My husband, however, was recently lamenting that he has no pictures of me in bikinis/bathing suits because I tend to hide from those pictures and thus he has a few he took while we were at the beach and I was far enough away/looking the other direction so I didn't notice. So I thought that maybe getting a professional to take some shots at nice angles that don't make me as self-conscious would be a nice idea for DH. It would be a surprise, not something that I would ask him to look over with me, and I would use a female photographer.

Still a terrible idea?

I think you could do this on your own. You could even enlist DH's help to get everyone out of the house for a few hours. Find or create (by laying down a white bedspread, for example) a neutral backdrop near a nice diffused light, like a window. Put on your bikini and a pair of sexy/slutty heels. Set a camera on a barstool or something and use the timer. It'll be a pain in the butt to get up and down and keep resetting the picture, but you can take as many pictures as you want with no pressure. Eventually you'll stumble upon a good angle, and you can build on that. I awoke my inner Hustler model this way, and it has given me such confidence. Good luck!

I did this as a wedding gift to DH. I used a female photographer, and it was a surprise. It was very common in my circle of friends. We were also in our early 20's before kids (late 20s now!) DH loved it, and says he still looks at them from time to time.
