The Great Society programs halved the poverty rate for African Americans. The Civil Rights Movement led to the passage of laws making discrimination or segregation illegal in the workplace, in housing, and in other spheres of life. Voting Rights Act eliminated ridiculous obstacles to exercising the right to vote. I could keep going. Liberals have done a ton to level the playing field.
