One week, 5k, and want to see something incredibly beautiful - where would you go?

I vote for Hawii, stayed at www.grandwailea.com, loved it.

I'd do SE Asia - Phuket, Bali, etc Previous suggestions of Tahiti also sound great. Or the Maldives would be lovely.

Again. How the heck do you do this on 5k including airfare?! And who travels this far for a mere week??

Guatemala/ semuc champey; lake atitlan, tikal
Ecuador: Galapagos, Laguna Quilotoa

This would be for a solo (semi) adventure. I would prefer not too cold/snowy, but some chilly air is fine. I just want to go someplace exceptionally beautiful.

Galapagos. It's the most impressive place I've been. That said, I don't know if it's beautiful per se - it's just awe inspiring.

If you just want gorgeous, banff comes to mind. Fiji is another such location.

Galapagos for 5k and for only one week? No way.

How much do you estimate it would cost?

Around 12 including airfare. Galapagos is a very very expensive trip.

No shit. OP did not indicate travel for two. You can get to Patagonia (Chile) under 5K.

So let's say the flight is 2k. This leaves around 500 dollars a day for a hotel, food and transportation. Problem is I doubt OP is traveling alone.

Is that the right season for the highlands?

If the year is 1747, any season will do.

The chilly is good if Jamie is included in the package deal.

Yep, still doable. We did Machu Picchu for two for ~5K. But I bargain shopped and made my own arrangements. If you want a tour operator experience, then I have no idea what the cost.

12 for one person, huh? Very expensive indeed. Is this for luxury accommodations?

It's very hard to get there. Not like you can take public transit. Then there are the tours.

Agreed. I think heading to South America might be a better pick.
