Rogue 24. I hear very mixed things about Komi from foodies.

+1 This is where we go now for super special occasions. Tough to get a reservation though but heavenly food, wine and service

Uhmmm...no? Any "foodie" who identifies themselves as such probably has no idea what they're talking about. I have yet to meet or hear from anyone who has had anything but a stellar experience at Komi.

Rogue, however, does get mixed reviews. I enjoyed it though.

I love Marcel's. Plume is nice too, but I prefer the food at Marcel's. It isn't trendy, but it's consistent, classicly elegant, and quiet/warm enough to feel romantic (as distinct from some high-end restaurants, which feel like they cater to business people entertaining on expense accounts). You can go for a tasting menu or order regular portions a la carte. I recall our waiter explaining that one part of the menu (savories, maybe?) includes many of the restaurant's most decadent options, so focus on that if you want to indulge.

Plume is also very nice in a classical way, and the space is beautiful, but I prefer the cooking at Marcel's.

My DH loves Restaurant Eve in Alexandria, especially the sweetbreads. I've been underwhelmed by Komi, though I haven't been in a while. It IS food theater, but the cooking itself, while inventive, was less satisfying to me than the cooking at a lot of other places.

I'd do Fiola Mare or Blue Duck Tavern for what you're describing. I also really love Rose's and Komi.

I wish folks would stop saying a place is "clsed" or gone out of business when they are still opened. I just called. A dinner at freddie's would be over-the-top for sure. Loud Decor, drag queens, karaoke. Put your homophobia aside honeybuns.

Maybe PP was thinking Freddy's in Bethesda, which did just close and was definitely not a special occasion restaurant.

Agree w Marcel's. DH and I just went there for the exact same type of occasion (promotion/anniversary celebration). Very romantic, service & food & wine were impeccable.

Obviously not a foodie/trendy place if that's what you're looking for.
