How Much Do You Spend To Eat Out?

I still want to hear back from Bring Your Own Cream Cheese mom.

On average we spend about $350 a month for family of 4 - kids 2 and 4 and around 50-60 for dinner. We almost never go out for breakfast or lunch.

We had a rare date night out tonight. Had two margaritas, an appetizer, two entrees and a dessert. Plus a meal brought home to the babysitter. Totaled $65 with tax and tip.

That would be me, the panera one (is Panera even considered eating out or does it rank as a subway or Chipotle as in previous posts?)

What do you want to know? That we like to save our money, but Panera is a sweet treat for us? That it is outrageously expensive to buy a tiny tub of cream cheese and less-than-generous cup of fruit for a family of 5?

If the cost of a little tub of cream cheese is going to break you, then you probably shouldn't eat out at all. It's not fair to the establishment.

Chipotle serves margaritas?

So tacky. Get it to go or just stay home, but this is ridiculous.

Breakfast daily is $10-$20 depending on how many kids are with us.

Lunch a few times a week $20

Dinners 3 times a week with kids $30-$60.

Date night dinner no less than $100

You're being facetious but actually, they do.

Two of us. We typically spend $2-250 per week on dinners out (usually just weekends). Lunches I spend about $100 a week. But it is highly variable. A $2-300 dinner isn't unheard of a few times a month. I think last year we spent about $35k dining out based on my Amex spending.

Is this some regional linguistic difference where eating out means eating somewhere fancy?

Agree a million percent.

Right? I guess compared to most on here, we either go to cheap places or pretty casual. For non drive thru places where we eat in, even with 6 people and tip, we usually don't spend more than $100, and I'm being generous with that number. We don't drink alcohol and half of us order water so I'm sure that helps.

The truth is that I could never justify spending $150 on a meal for two people and it is not that I cannot afford it because we are quite well off.

To me that is literally throwing money away.

So is spending whatever it costs to buy tortillas, beans and a side of salt at Chipotle.

That's how we like to spend our date money. We used to spend $60 on a sitter. Now that our kids are older and can stay by themselves, that's $60 more we can spend on the food Some people are foodies, some are not. I have a very modest car compared to my income level, but I don't go around saying that people who spend $50,000 or more on a car are "literally throwing their money away."

What do you spend money on?
