I work for a very large company and the corporate standard is cubes. For everybody. The guy who is the head of my division (probably has 4-5,000 people under him at makes at least 500K), sits in a cube. It's a bit difficult for managers because we are expected to do 1:1's and other meetings and it's getting exceedingly hard to find conference rooms, but otherwise no complaints. You do lave to learn to tune things out (I use headphones).

Industry/company?

Just curious.

I had an office with a door all thru the 80's and 90's.

How do you know how much they make?

Used to work at a place where I shared an office and it was a cut through to another office. So people constantly walking back and forth and looking at what you were doing - computer faced the wall. Ah those were the days.

Got my own office with a window at $90k. Everyone where I work has an office with a window except the admins.

Are you able to wear noise canceling headphones? My company is considering moving employees into a "Google" layout where everyone would sit at tables with no walls. Supposedly this builds collaboration between employees but I think it's a horrible idea. Cubes with walls at least offer some level of privacy.

I am curious if people find it makes them more productive/collaborative or if it's just a cost-saving measure to reduce office space.

At my agency the admins get their own offices and the attorneys have to share. Why you ask? Government efficiency and the admins being in charge. I'm miserable but am trying to think about the other benefits I'm getting from working there.

What industry is this??

How do you have confidential phone calls with clients if you're sharing an office? I cannot imagine being an attorney and not having my own space.

$100K in a cube but everyone in the company is in a cube, including the president (600-700 employees).

90K yes,I have my own office and a nice view

At my old company I only got an office after being promoted to mgmt and even then, at first had to share a cube w/another manager. Only management gets offices at that co, and they were tiny with no doors.

DH got his first (nice, big with windows) office at 130k. Was previously in a tiny interior office without windows.

I have always had my own office, sometimes with a window, sometimes without. As an intern, I made about $30k, then about $60k as a law clerk, then $120-$300k in a firm, then $110-127k in government. Now I am losing my office because I work from home most of the time. Good riddance!
