He's addressed the gay rumor, and said he's found it offensive because it implies that if he were gay he would lie about it. I actually do buy that. I can see him (or anyone) bearding in the 80s-90s, but not now. I think if Clooney came out, he'd get nothing but praise, and his career wouldn't suffer at all. And it's not like he's financially insecure and can't take the risk.

True, and he doesn't even need to act these days. He could certainly find plenty of work directing and producing, so I can't see how coming out as gay would be a big detriment to him.

Anonymous wrote:Gay? I never heard those rumors. Anyway, who cares? Happy marriages are made in all kinds of ways. Mazel tov.

uh
ok

So you'd be fine being a beard to your mensch (or unmensch)?

OK - mazel tov!

I could definitely see that being true with Halle, but not GC. His exes all seem to like him too much. I think he's just a serial monogamist, and he's honest about it from the beginning so they know the deal and aren't bitter afterward. But who knows. Maybe he's aging enough now that it's not as hard to keep from cheating and this current one is more interesting to him anyway, so he figures it's time to settle down.

No, he is gay. Open secret in LA, like Travolta and Tom Cruise. But if you prefer to rely on People magazine for your "news," keep believing.

Not a big People mag fan, but what exactly is your source? "open secret in LA"? Like that Jamie Lee Curtis is a hermaphrodite and Warren Beatty was gay?
I really don't care if he's gay. I would be disappointed in him for not coming out at this point, though.

I love her! A smart, educated, not overly made up brunette who is over 35. Makes me think I had a shot too

Good luck to them both, no matter the motive.

Are you in LA? People in Hollywood have been outing themselves for years now? I don't see any reasons for him to hide if he was gay. It's not like he does romantic comedies or tough, macho action flicks. His genre of movies is not dependent on the machismo actor. So, I am not buying whatever nonsense you are always trying to sell PP. and you having been trying to sell this gay outing very hard on DCUM. Repeat it often enough and then you begin to believe the rumors, is that your intent.

I have heard the gay rumors too but obviously have no clue, but it seems absurd that he wouldn't just own it if he were. I think people are just baffled at why he wouldn't settle down. Now it seems he has met an accomplished, smart woman which may be what he was lacking when he was dating all of the arm candy. He finally found substance and not just a beautiful shell.

NP here - but as for if someone like GC was gay- yes, they would want to cover it up. They lose the leading man roles with a twist of romance. Not that GC is doing all romcoms like other actresses but it would hurt his box star status gradually. How many gay men are women lusting over (in Hollywood) that command top dollars? I mean the open gay ones..

really?

Openly gay men are not in their 50s. It's generational. Look at Travolta. about the same age, right?

Look how long it took Elton John to come out, and Christ - who didn't know?

I'm 10:37- Elton John is not a romantic lead - so it's not necessarily that it's common knowledge the reason why people come out. Travolta is "married" if he is gay, he sure is trying to cover it up as I said someone like GC would be inclined to do so given his image.
Anonymous
LOL. This is why these actors keep up the bearding--because you guys believe it.
Anonymous
Rupert Evert now says he wished he never came out. He like Clooney is hot but no way could I see him in any romantic lead..is it fair? No but it is what it is.

Victor Garber and Ian Mckellan are and they both play leading men. I love them both.

Neil Patrick Harris did a pretty good job acting like a sexist heterosexual hot for women as Barney on How I Met Your Mother. So George shouldn't worry so much if he is in fact gay.
