Wasn't just the magnet program. They redistricted parts of Rockville about 20 yrs ago, and a more affluent area got redistricted to RM. |
This is correct. I grew up in one of the redistricted neighborhoods, but I was already at Wootton. My brother would have been in the first incoming redistricted class (he is 40) in his 9th grade year. FWIW, my parents pulled him and put him in private (mostly due to the fact that he was flunking out of middle school and needed a much smaller environment). |
Yes, apparently caused a major uproar in the area. But most of the parents I have met in that area are fine with RM, so I guess 20+ yrs later the reputation has changed a bit. |
20:00 again. Yes, now RM's rep is much much different than it used to be. There was a HUGE fight when they began the redistricting. We lost some friends who lived in the RM neighborhoods when my brother switched to private (again, switch had to do with his lousy grades and inability to function in large classes more so than the school switch. He would not have gone to Wootton either). |

Ugh this forum makes me so mad! As someone who is currently in Wootton I can tellyou that it is not as bad as some of you make it put to be. Yes we are a very competitive school but a little competition is always good. We have access to rigorous classes and most of the teachers are willing to sit with you and help you. A lot of students at our school are able to maintain a high gpa and are still able to relax with friends.
The extracurricular program is unbelievable at wootton. For example, the drama department continuously produces amazing shows that inhibit diversity. Our tennis team has also gone undefeated this year. Contrary to the beliefs of the people on here who havent gone to wootton, the social problems are much less than that of other schools such as churchill. Yes, kids do drugs but its HIGHSCHOOL. There are always people who do drugs no matter where you are. Also, how dare you bring up the recent suicide. You did not know ryan and you cannot judge the entire school on his suicide. In middle school there were many cliques but in high school no one gives a shit about the "popular" people who dont exist anymore. You can easily find a group of people who have similar interests as you, so its not like exclusive cliques are a major problem. Basically if your kid is a lazy bum who isnt willing to put work in to do well then im sorry, wootton isnt for you. If you never ever want to expose your children to competition (its not like it exists in the real world psh) then wootton isnt for you. If you want a school that better prepares dedicated children for college, then wootton is for you. Ps im not trying to say that woottons the best high school, but im trying to refute the comments made by those with little expearience in wootton regarding the school. |
