The Washington post coverage of this is bizarre. First, it didn't cover last week's shooting and problems at all. Now, the article is very sparse and just says the zoo was having special events that had been a tradition for decades. No mention that it's African American day. No mention of past history of violence on African American day. No mention of the fact that part if the problem is that people from all different neighborhoods and crews come to the day and that causes tension. It's just bizarre. I would really love to know the decision making behind their lack of more extensive coverage. |
Good questions. Washington Post? |
Unbelievable. Anyone who speaks of canceling this will be an automatic racist. Watch. You're a racist if you try to stop the violence. You're a racist if you ignore it. Amazing.
What do you people want? |
Okay, we heard you post at 18:29. Got it. Everyone accuses everyone of being racist. |
How do you go about canceling a tradition that is held in a public space? This is a ridiculous idea. What do you all suggest the zoo do? Put up a big sign on Easter Monday that says "no African Americans allowed today at the zoo" |
Why not have metal detectors and aggressive police frisking |
My knee jerk reaction was also to cancel the event. But it's my understanding that the event is a holdover from segregation. People have been doing this for years and it will continue I be a tradition whether it is officially sanctioned or not. Canceling the event is pointless.

No. The zoo would just be closed. DCPS would be open for school. Problem solved. |
Sure. But they'll get sued for a hate crime. |
I assumed it was because they didn't want to mention it as an AA event and get accused of being racist. Anyway, the day needs to go. The zoo is free an open to anyone, everyday of the year but Christmas and has been for long enough. Segregation at this particular venue has long since ended. If they want to be "one city", start acting like it. |
Do you have anything cogent to contribute? All you can say is that people will cry "racism!" Or that folks will sue. That's all you have? |
I was going to suggest emailing the ombudsman, but apparently they cut the ombudsman for budgetary reasons. Oh well. |
The PC police have invaded the Post's brain, or at least its IT systems. |
I'd like to meet the a@#h234 who would sue after repeated violent incidents like this. Even Al Sharpton has tried to go respectable. If anything, the ones who should sue are Jenny and Joe Jones who don't feel that the zoo is a safe environment for their family. |
So you want the zoo to close on 1. Christmas 2. Easter Monday? Right. |
