Actually, what it just goes to show me is that a lot of people in Potomac go away for spring break.

Basically, things here will quickly devolve into arguments about SES

Here's a preview of the most valuable DCUM arguments re: today's absences...

1) absences today at W schools show that parents value family time and all of the enriching extracurricular experiences of travel
2) absences today at DCC schools show that parents don't value school
3) attendance today at W schools show parents value education
and
4) attendance today at DCC schools show parents value free baby-sitting and free & reduced meals

Amiright?

Not sure you meant to be accurate but it was

There are private schools, you know.

Most private schools have Spring Break in March between 3-4th quarter. Most don't have off Easter Week.

Wrong, a whole bunch have Easter week off. Oh, wait! If it is a religious school of any sort, especially Christian, then it doesn't really count as a private school. Isn't that the DCUM mantra?

Catholic Schools and many Jewish Day schools were closed through today. But then on DCUM, these aren't considered private.

Ha! Wish I had seen your post. I just pointed out the same thing. Thanks, PP!

Parochial schools are different than privates.

Isn't a parochial school by definition private? Not every child may attend, and they have some sort of selection criteria, so logically speaking they are clearly a category of private schools. Bizarre illogical comment that reeks of snobbery

No, they are not different. Additionally, my post refers to schools other than parochial which have this week or part of it off. Are they also not "private." Now, if you want to refer to schools as "independents", like AIMS schools, that is a different discussion. Private is the large umbrella which encompasses all non-public schools. People on DCUM need to get their terminology correct.
