There are pediatricians in this area that would give you a medical exemption for the time being, considering your medical background. If the only reason you are pursuing further vaccination at this time is for preschool, keep in mind that you do have this option. (You also have the option of claiming a religious exemption, although some people do not feel comfortable with that as discussed on the other looooong vaccination thread). OP -- we do not stick to the schedule. In fact, we have not done any vaccinations at all for our 2 and 4 year old children. They have been in daycares and preschools and we have successfully used exemptions. |
Op here; thank you for all your responses. So out of roughly 40 responses around 25 stuck to original schedule and around 15 changed/spaced out shots. ( don't hold me to my math, I haven't slept in 4 months!) I think it is interesting to see how many people stay with the schedule since so much talk on this website is about alternative schedules and spacing out shots. It is easy to believe that spacing out shots is the norm now with most people from many of the posts here. I was just curious if most people spaced them out or if those who did were just talking more about it. I am currently sticking to the schedual reluctantly since my peds office will not/is reluctant to space them out. It makes me feel better about this decision seeing so many others have also stuck to the schedule. Thanks again for all your responses. |
Another one who stuck to the schedule--6 yr old and 3yr old, no problems at all.

We stick to the schedule, but poor baby has gotten 4 shots for both her 2 and 4 month appts. (Dr. doesn't combine vaccines in one shot). 2 nurses stick her at the same time twice. Besides the tears, no bad reaction ![]() |
we have not followed the schedule |
Sticking to schedule for all 3 children |
Stuck to the schedule for everything except Chicken Pox, MMR, and Hep A. Got them all later than recommended: Chicken Pox at 21 mos, MMR at 2 yrs. Hep A some other time after that. |
To the PP (or anyone who knows) -- can you explain the delay in those three vaccines - chicken pox, MMR, and Hep A? Just want to understand the reasoning. Is it because MMR is such a big vaccine and the others are more discretionary in terms of seriousness?
Thank you for any insight! |
stuck to schedule, except when more than 4 shots were needed. Then we waited a month and did the rest. (We were going abroad so my older son ended up with more than 4 shots once). He had a reaction to the flu shot once. His leg was very sore and he refused to walk for a day. He was fine the next day.
Younger son has stuck to schedule with no problems. |
I totally agree. I was talking to my DH about this and he said to me--reading and re-reading what a few people on DCUM writes does not make it the norm. Most people that I ask look at me like I'm crazy and say-yeah we got all the shots-what do you mean? |
stuck to the schedule. except waited until our daughter is 2 to give her MMR |
