What's up with the stink eye?

I give the stink eye to the stink eye!

I maybe the first mom...

Huh? Don't you know there are no women like that in this area? If you think there are, it must be you....

That said, it is hard for me not to roll my eyes or grimace when I see parents letting their children play on the floor of a restaurant or a mall. Super gross, and in the way of other patrons.

oh, wow. i do this. my son is just learning to walk. i like giving him the freedom to explore (i'm always just a step behind him). what's gross about it? so, he picks up a germ? haven't you heard: it builds immunity. you can keep your kid in a bubble if you want, but i won't do that. and i am sure to keep him out of the way of other patrons (who, unlike you, always smile and appreciate an exploring baby).

as for those complaining about their time being wasted in the grocery store by kids, one word for you: peapod.

OP here. This discussion is what I was asking! I guess it comes down to who is loud...but if I'm not being loud? Do people just stare a lot here?

There are so many mean and self-important people here. I think that half of the commenters on this thread are just trying to pick a fight, but even that speaks volumes.

OP here. I think this did turn ugly, not my intent. "Just what I was asking" was the different perspectives on what promotes "the eye". My point was, it just seems to happen more than it should (when I'm really just trying to talk to my kids off to the side), that's all. Thanks for your honest input.

OMG. This is the funniest thread I've seen on this site. I'm weeping! Stink eye to the stink-eye? Classic!

If you think this is funny, check out the misanthropes on the misanthrope thread!

I think there's a lot of crossover.

I am far from a germophobe, and I love seeing new walkers toddle around with a parent close behind. But there is walking, and then there is rolling or sitting on the ground and actually playing on the ground. Playing on the floor at a restaurant or the grocery store or in the middle of the mall is gross and it almost always gets in someone's way.

I promise that letting Junior crawl all over the floor of TGIFriday's is not building his immunity, either.

really? are you a doctor? i doubt it...

listen, i let junior crawl all over floors when he was in that stage....he never got any exotic illnesses from it. just the run-of-the-mill colds that everyone in daycare got. usually, i let him crawl around when we were on a break from a long car trip, or just about to go to a restaurant (no, he didn't crawl in crowded areas). georgetown mall on a sunday morning was awesome! he'd shake the shimmies out and we'd all enjoy a meal out together at clydes.

so get over yourself.

I didn't say it would lead to an exotic disease, just that it does not "build immunity." Although, you know what, you're probably right. I'm sure the floor at the Georgetown Mall actually has medicinal properties. Just make sure you don't wash his hands afterward and wash all those immune-builders away. Stupid soap companies who propagandize hygiene! Germs are where it's at.

As for those complaining about the store patrons that are annoyed that a child is learning how to scan groceries, thus holding up the line, one word for you: don't do it when others are behind you.

Yikes, I miscounted. Make that EIGHT words.
