Why wouldn't you move to va?

Because I would never move to a state that doesn't treat my friends or family as equals (see PP). I actually think a bit less of people who live in VA.

Ahhh, that makes me a little sad. I live in Va in part because I can actually make a difference. My vote can actually change things. I guess all of the liberals in NoVa could just throw up our hands and move to DC or Md, but that would likely be very detrimental for everyone. So, I guess think less of me if you wish, but I am happy with my decision.

NP here. If you live in NoVa, then your vote has less impact than you think. Virginia has long been torn between the very liberal NoVa and the very conservative RoVa and unfortunately when it comes to state politics, RoVa has more sway than NoVa does. With a supermajority in both houses in Virginia, you'll continue to see rightward swaying legislation. Liberals need to move further out from DC and further South to have the type of impact that they want. As one half of a biracial couple, I frankly am uncomfortable in Virginia and have absolutely no faith that my rights, my wife's rights, the rights of my children and the rights of my same-gender friends are at all guaranteed and I do not wish to be a guinea pig for conservative doctrine.

I applaud those liberals who live there and try to make a difference, but I won't be one of them.

Cry me a damn river. What a load of bull. The sky is not falling in NoVa or anywhere in town for that matter. We've long enjoyed a liberal existence in VA without any problems.

So you're straight, huh?

So it's okay to live in Texas as long as you live in Austin? It doesn't matter what city you live in if your state govt that you pay your hefty car/property taxes to treats women and gays as 2nd class citizens.

And I love crossing the river to campaign for democratic candidates.

As a woman of color, the only place in the DMV I have felt the stings of discrimination has been in DC. Virginia has its issues but to claim DC doesn't have deep racial and gender issues is a fallacy. Ignorance must feel good.

Metro and proximity to the district. Glenmont is closer to NE and NW DC (where we have friends, family, and work) than Vienna. Arlington is too expensive. People say Alexandria has bad schools.

Because I don't want to give up my 10 minute commute... and can't afford to pay 900k for a split-level house that I don't even like.

I love all the people that are like, but there are LIBERALS in NoVA!@$@ Um, who cares? There are NEANDERTHALS in Richmond, which will keep me far far away from Virginia.

This makes me wonder why residents of NoVA are not pushing for statehood to a magnitude like D.C. residents. I'd welcome the state of Northern or "North" Virginia, but the politicians in Richmond wouldn't.

As to the question, for me I wouldn't move to VA because everything I need is in D.C. and Maryland. The only time I ever cross to the western side of the Potomac is when I'm going to National.

What's wrong with FFX county schools?

Maybe a statistical aberration, but it does not bode well for a school system that sees four of its high school students take their own lives in a 48 hour time span. One school saw six suicides I believe, in a three year time frame. You can read today's WaPo article to confirm the numbers; no guarantees for accuracy but the thrust is about right. Add liberal gun laws to that and you've got a recipe for disaster.

Maybe there is something to it: Students growing up in the city see the struggle of others, maybe develop empathy, maybe gain perspective about their own privilege, maybe have better access to services. Or maybe I'm plain wrong.

Would definitely choose VA over MoCo. Hard to say what's worse about MD, the hot mess of Baltimore or the representative idiots in Annapolis.

And there are troglodytes in Baltimore.

I wouldn't want to live in either Virginia or Maryland. They both suck. I think most of the people posting on here don't live in DC and already live in one or the other.

Baltimore is not the capitol of MD.

This is the state in which the GOP put EW Jackson on the allot, not to mention elected Bob Marshall.
