I think your problem is wasting your time on DCUM. |
A 2-hour delay would have meant high school kids would be getting picked up at 8:30 AM-9:00 AM. So they would have been going in when the "on time" ES and Pre-K kids are going in. A 2-hour delay would have worked for ES, but not HS. |
Would a 2 hour delay even work for elementary? Isn't the snow supposed to stop around 12 so who is to say the roads will be that much better around 10 or so when the elementary kids are going to school?
Look at the big picture - a delay wouldn't have done any good since as the pp noted, the hs and ms kids would be dealing with this now. How many of you would be complaining to high heavens if they cancelled school today (and face it, that is probably the only reasonable solution to avoid the traffic messes)? |
just sit in my office after 90 minutes driving for 12 miles. the belway is like a parking lot. my kid was late for school for 35 minutes. I am from bethesda, the neigborhood roads were covered with fresh snow, yes it is very slippery. |
hahahahahaha I'm sure your boss would love to hear that MoCo doesn't care about MSAs this year. Funny, because MSA prep has been the focus of the learning at my son's MS all month. Pray tell, why doesn't MoCo care about MSA's this year? I would LOVE to hear this one. |
MCPS and most other school districts have a policy to announce closures by 5:00 a.m. At 5:00 there was hardly a flake in sight.

I am guessing that MCPS and most other school districts look at weather forecasts when deciding whether to close or delay schools. |
My HS DC had a self imposed delay - overslept because we assumed there would be a delay so missed first period. But at least where we are the roads are fine, DC had no trouble getting to school, and a 2 hour delay would have meant more snow rather than less. Our street is clear and has not been treated.
Overall if they were going to have school today I think they needed to do it on time. And cancelling really isn't a good option at this point - these kids need to go to school. |
Our school bus never showed up for our elementary school in bethesda and frankly it was slippery out. Finally after waiting for 20 minutes we started driving the kids to school. |
Unless you live on a main road, where is there a "clear" street? |
But then the roads would have been bad for the high schoolers who would go in when elementary time normally starts. They wanted to get everyone in before the snow got bad. And teachers who knew of the snow should be leaving at least an hour. No excuse to be hours late. Sorry. I have been out to take one child to school 12 miles away and another to pre K 6 miles away. Both times, the roads were fine if you drove carefully. I saw 0 accidents. |
If you were concerned you should've implemented your own delay or kept kids home from school. Mcps made a call but at the end of the day you're the parent so you have the ultimate call. Done and done. |
How do you know that your school bus never showed up? What you know is that your school bus was 20 minutes late, and then you left. In my experience (not in Bethesda), the school bus has always showed up eventually. |
LOL Seriously, your kid is going to be late because you have to dust the car off? Good lord. How about you get your face out of the screen typing away like a whiny kid and leave with enough time to get there on time. Is anyone not accountable for themselves anymore?? Kids lead by example. |
Um, don't they look what the weather forecasters are saying and the radar instead of looking out the window? One to three inches was forecast for this morning and the winter weather advisory goes to noon. |
