Any MV families considering a move to Bancroft to avoid horrendous commute next year?

The new location is in fact in a neighborhood called Truxton Circle. NoMa is in NE.

True, but this kind of neighborhood pedantry belongs on the PoPville blog, not here.

The new MV location is 1 block west of what is "officially" NoMa.

And 2-3 blocks north of possibly the highest concentration of gun crime west of the Anacostia river: Sursum Corda and the notorious NY Ave/N Capitol intersection.

Hasn't Sursum Corda been razed by now?

I would not count on this. Bancroft (not the whole school btw, just certain parts of the neighborhood) is one of the schools that should be dropped from Deal, along with Eaton and Oyster. Allowing Bancroft to feed Adams with Oyster makes a lot of sense. Deal? Not so much. That will probably not survive.

Adams seems like a decent option compared to DCI, which is a complete unknown at this point.

But don't all the IB oyster families bail on adams and leave the school by 3rd or 4th grade? Not a great vote of confidence. Or at least go to Deal after 5th?

No, not true. Please speak with real Adams parents. Don't believe everything you read on DCUM.

Since MV is a charter school and based on a lottery why do you think most of MV families live in the Bancroft neighborhood? Weird.

How many families stay? There have definitely been posts from oyster-adams parents that many people do not go on to Adams. But -yes, you are right, DCUM is clearly not a good source.

Um, did anybody suggest this? There are a number of Mt P families at MV --that's who the question was for. Anyway, even MV families who are out of bounds for Bancroft would have a shot at lotterying in if their kid is in K or above.

Even if no one suggested it it's still a thought.

The shooting on NY ave/ N cap were people from Maryland. They are in jail now.

Washington post did an article about a year ago on Hanover Place, the little one way block between N and O St NW off n. Cap that was a notorious drug den during the 80ties. The dealers are gone now and the block is now inhabited by Feds and students at Georgetown Law.

I live near the new MV location for almost 4 yrs. Haven't had any problems and I have a 6 and 3 yr old. But I don't walk around drunk at 2AM either.

What does having a perp that is from MD have to do with anything?

Exactly. Stupid PP. I'm sure the MD people had some connection to DC.

They did not live in DC or Sursum Corda. The shooting wasn't any different than shootings on U St with nightclub/bar patrons.

The people being targeted live there. Moot point. Many shootings in Anacostia are committed by people that live in MD

Is anyone keeping MV off their list because of the neighborhood?

Yes, the area is full of shootings, drug dealers, social service agencies, homeless people, etc. You don't want to bring your precious snowflake into the ghetto that's gasp, near poor people who live in housing projects! Don't apply for your kids' safety!
