Honestly, it isn't that bad. We have two window units (both in the back of the house so I can pretend we don't have them ) and it's OK.
But yeah, after 8 years in the house we are getting central air this year. |

I actually like our house but it would be perfect if it was just 20-25% bigger. It's fine now because our kids are little but I want more a rec room/play space/media center as they get older so we will likely move before too long. Also a bigger kitchen and a slightly larger room for DC#2.
There is also a large area in the backyard where the grass always dies so the lawn is patchy year-round. |
| The kitchen cabinets are falling apart. They are old and my kids have used the handles as ladder rungs one too many times. |

1.) Its location (jobs changed from VA to DC after we bought)
2.) The school district (redistricted after we bought) 3.) The kitchen (circa 1978 but we would never see the money back if we renovated and the house is already worth less than what we paid, see #2) |
| Backyard is swampy and the neighbors are putting in a massive addition and paving most of their backyard, so we are going to be raising rice or cranberries. |
| Small kitchen, only one full bath. Can't wait to renovate! |
While it detracts slightly from the overall look, you can get rubber shower thresholds and water dams that are designed to make some lipless showers wheelchair accessible. You can at least stop the water from dripping outside the shower while you bathe. |
| I have a nice big house with an open floor plan and high ceilings. The problem is that in the winter, the nice open stairway acts like a chimney to funnel all of the heat up to the 2nd floor. To keep the first floor warm, it costs a fortune to heat. So we end up with a chilly first floor or a huge gas bill. |

I actually love our house (DH would say I better since we just bought it 7 months ago), but this thread is helping me too.
The layout is not my ideal--it's the biggest concession we made--2 bedrooms, 1 bath upstairs and 1 bedroom, 1 bath on the main floor very close (but not directly adjacent to) the living room. For now, the kids share a room and we're all upstairs, but the plan is for us to have the main level bedroom in a couple years. As a PP mentioned the bathrooms are tiny. They're also 1950s colored tile, but that will change eventually so it doesn't bug me, but they'll always be tiny. And, our yard has a really steep grade. I feel like we'll someday come up with some landscaping that makes it work, but a flat yard would have been great. |

the house is perfect |
The dumb ass from whom we purchased the house converted the garage into a great room. It's cold. And it's turned into a GINORMOUS playroom. |
|
If we had opted for a sun-room when it was being built we would have had a huge basement.
Other than that I love my house. |
