This thread was kinda old to resurrect with no real reason. Curious why...? |
Same here. We have a Catherine, and she's always been Catherine. When her friends call her anything else (i.e. Cathy), she corrects them. |
+1! Adorable |
My name is Caroline and that is what I have always been called |
Carlotta is Spanish for Charlotte. Caro is a nickname for Carolyn from an Agatha Christie story. |
I knew a girl named Carrie growing up. It wasn't until a few years in that I learned her real name was Caroline. I was surprised that it wasn't the first one mentioned! Maybe it's a Midwestern thing?
This alone is the reason I wouldn't name my kid Caroline. I don't like the nickname. |
Funny that this thread has been resurrected a couple of times by people searching for their own names. |
I like Lina, Ro, Carrie, Callie... but I think you should just call her Caroline. |
Oh my gosh. That is awesome. |
Caro or Carrie but I personally hate Carrie |
This is me. Though, I don't have any formal nicknames, almost every friend group I have has nicknames for me. So while I would never use them to introduce myself, most people from college call me one nickname. It's fine with me though. My one friend with a Caroline calls her CC. It's not really a formal nickname, she's still Caroline, but they do call her that here and there. |
I don't like any nicknames for Caroline and I definitely don't like CeCe.
I'd try to keep CeCe as just a "family" nickname that some close friends use, if possible. It just sounds... I hate to say it, but trashy or like a stripper name. |
I really don't think Caroline is a name that people automatically want to nickname (like Elizabeth or Katherine), so I don't think this is a real worry unless you *want* her to have a nn. |
My name is Caroline, and I've never had a nickname that stuck. The closest thing to having a nickname was when teachers call me Carolin/Carolyn. Also, I once tried to go by Carebear, but that got old real fast. |
I'm a high school teacher, and I always tend to call kids by their full name- like all Matthews are Matthew- even if all the kids call them Matt. They then tell me, "you sound like my mom!" I think your kid is your kid, and you call her whatever you want for the rest of her life. At some point when it's beyond your control, her friends might start calling her something else. If she likes it, she'll let it stick. If not, she won't. And like a PP said, she gets to reinvent herself with each new shift in education and career. But as her mom, if Caroline is what you like best (and it must be, since you picked it!), then just go with it. And someday she'll have a teacher who will call her Caroline regardless of whether or not all of the kids are calling her Cece. ![]() |
