Moving to Arlington

You will also notice that non Yorktown schools have very low rate of Asians. There is a direct correlation with the quality of the school and percentage of Asians. I am not sure if Asians seek out better schools or schools perform better when Asians are in attendance.

Many parent's are also not comfortable sending their children to a majority ESOL speaking school or where their White or Asian child is in the minority population.

How would you rank HB Woodlawn in the high school mix?

Yorktown also has a low rate of Asian students. Parents of Asian children who value education move to the areas of Falls Church and McLean which feed into Longfellow Middle School because of its high rate of acceptance at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. The best thing Arlington has to compare is H.B.Woodlawn.

Would also be curious of the names of schools where ESOL is spoken. I have never heard of a language called ESOL.

Williamsburg is renowned for its mean girls and their mean moms. Normal kids are at Swanson, Kenmore and even TJ

If Annandale HS has so many Asian kids, how is it not higher in the rankings for Fairfax County? I don't think "number or percent of Asian kids at a school" is a 100% reliable measure of how desirable a school is.

PP It depends on how you define Asian. The "good" Asians are Indians and Chinese. Koreans are so/so. The "bad" Asians are Nepalese, Pakistani, Afghan.

Lyon Village, Maywood, Lyon Park and Ashton Heights are more expensive than 99.9% of the neighborhoods in the Yorktown pyramid. Stop spreading false information about the quality of W-L. You have your head up your ass.

But don't many LV parents go private for high school?

Ah, lovely, some racism on a Saturday afternoon.

Please do tell us your opinions about the following groups as well. Whites, blacks, Jews -- "good' or "bad"?

NO. 99% go to W-L.

I have also heard that Williamsburg is mean-girl central. Do you have the right bag? Are you rich enough? Do you aspire to be on the Yorktown dance team?

Unfortunately, all of them have been left in the dust by the Asians.

Hopefully the next time you end up with one of the ample number of Pakistani hospital docs around here, they give you a
laxative suppository when you're not looking.

Most of the W-L bashers don't live in or understand Arlington. W-L has a great reputation, and most of the school overcrowding is due to all the public school families moving into Lyon Village, Tara, Maywood, Woodmont, Bluemont, etc. Don't believe the trolls that say most families in the W-L HS district go private. That is completely false.

The poster who said W-L is just "slightly better that Wakeflield" doesn't know what she is talking about. The level of parental involvement at W-L is on a completely different level. Wakefield also has many more disciplinary issues, due to a larger low-income population. And test scores and the graduation rates are much higher at W-L.

The SAT score for Wakefield is among the lowest in Northern Va. W-L's scores are behind Yorktown's but respectably high compared to Farifax County schools. Didn't W-L have the most National Merit Finalists in Arlington last year. There are a ton of really smart kids at that school.

The truth in Arlington (for better or worse): There is a premium for homes north of route 50 , because they are zoned to W-L and Yorktown. There is no significant difference between home values in the W-L or Yorktown districts, even in neighborhoods that are split between the two schools.

To the PP, please stop spreading misinformation. You remind me of a poster a couple years ago, who claimed Yorktown was a terrible school because it had a lower Greatschools score than Annandale, which was one of the "worst" high schools in Fairfax County (according to that poster).

What about the Glen Carlin neighborhood? It is south of Rt 50 and zoned to W-L. What about the areas off Columbia Pike zoned to W-L?
