To the parent who posted at 13:45, please take out the trash or something but don't come on this board with your hippy propaganda. Wu Tang Forever!

In higher Ed, they are begging us to prepare our kids properly, and we are no doing it. We worry too much about whether or not a school has a great Mandarin course. In the real world, people eat, sleep, drink, and dream in English. I have traveled the world and can attest to that.

My kids dream in Spanish and English.

Don't bother trying to be reasonable... The train wreck person you are responding to is not interested in reason. But the rest of us understand what you mean.

Your kids do not dream in both English and Spanish. Come on now. How do you know? You have watched Inception too many times.

We must put an end to using tax dollars to fund language instruction especially when Tyrone cannot spell his own name.

Why should my kid give up on something because of some kid named Tyrone? Why should my child not benefit from something because of another child's needs? I wouldn't dream of taking away from other children because of my own. Who does that?

If our tax dollars weren't funding a foreign language class for Davontae while Tyrone is learning how to spell his name, they'd have to fund another class, because letting Davontae and the other 75 sixth graders who don't need remediation run amuck in the hallways for those 30 minutes seems like a very bad idea. For one thing, they'd make a lot of noise which would likely distract Tyrone.

So, since they'll need to spend some tax dollars (or in the case of Arabic at Haynes "tax riyals" since that position is funded by the Qatar Foundation) to hire some teachers, why not use those teachers to teach them a foreign language?
