^or that SES dictates test scores more than good teachers.

Why can't most Capitol Hill Montessori kids do grade level math when so few are FARMs?

I've heard rumors that the upper elementary program is a mess. Self directed teaching doesn't always create proficiency in all subject areas.

Totally, agree my DD goes the CHM@L and I have struggled with what she has been learning, since going to elementary. This report certainly gives me much to ponder and has confirmed my suspicions.

CHM@L is, pound for pound, the worst performer on this list. There is no excuse for a school with those demographics (FARMs %) to score that poorly.

The elementary program did have a huge challenge this year because the lead teacher was on sick leave for essentially the entire year, but the even before that the math scores were nothing to write home about.

The lead teacher with 60 kids in her class? The bulk of whom are in testing grades? Maybe someone should have thought about that when they found a sub (or two or three to make the ratio better). Or maybe the leadership at CHM needs to step up.

What sub? They never found a sub? Those kids played around the entire year and occasional received lessons from the other two elementary teachers who were overwhelmed .

Good Job, Shepherd. This school seems to maintain decent test scores and academic success, but is rarely talked about on this board.

Banneker is for Blacks and SWW is for whites. Did anyone notice that Eastern has the second highest test scores for the comprehensive schools. Wilson is number one but they have triple the tenth grade population in comparison to Eastern. Eastern came on strong and looks good on paper and that's nothing to sneeze at.

Too many brown kids...be real. Not my opinion, but i've seen a lot of this on this site.

So much for the theory that the only way to improve scores is to attract "white/affluent" students and their "likley to be involved" parents.

True. Equally, so much for the theory (common in some education circles to pass the ball) that the only way to improve education is to end poverty.

Well the banneker kids represent the best of DC student body. The best students in DC should be the who can have a 97-100% pass rate.

It's not the only way. But systemic poverty creates perpetual inequality. Especially in a district where PTA wealth makes a huge difference in staffing and school amenities.

Is there ANY EoP DCPS or charter school with a non-Hispanic White majority? No. That includes SWW.

EASTERN's doesn't have any growth scores so you don't know if the school did a good job teaching the students or not, they actually could have had no growth. Regardless they are on the "priority" list so not that amazing!!!!
