| Right, because federal workers don't also pay taxes. |
+1 |
I've been in the workforce for about 25 years, and I believe this is the very first year I will not work on Christmas eve, since I've joined the federal government. And I can say without a doubt that I have never experienced a Christmas eve at any private sector job where anyone was busting their butt. |
| DH is non-Fed and his last three jobs regularly cut him loose on Friday afternoons. And then there were the bonuses. Those are not perks I get as a Fed. So I will enjoy this one paid day, fuck you very much. -a Fed and a taxpayer. |
+2 I usually take it as a vacation day though Will the post office be open? |
| Why does OPM/status still say OPEN? |
Because certain sections are open. http://chcoc.gov/transmittals/TransmittalDetails.aspx?TransmittalID=5212

| I ha ve no problems with the Feds getting the day off. However, us contractors who work on site do not get the day off. Unfortunately, the HVAC system was shut down. So, I have a choice: a leave day or be very very hot. |
Cut lose on Friday afternoons and bonuses? Dang. I'm an engineer with a government contractor but I guess my company missed that memo. Oh well, at least I've got my home and health and my kids and my wife (well, at home. I'm still at the office). |
Calm down, ma'am. This is not your "one paid day" off. You get many paid holidays, more than most American workers. As for bonuses, I know very few people who still get them. If your husband is getting regularly cut early (from three jobs, no less) must be an industry thing because it just doesn't happen in most private sector jobs. Hope you enjoyed your day off and lost the Angry Poster attitude. |

Your holidays and vacations are all pathetic compared with those enjoyed by civilized countries.
But keep scrapping amongst yourselves while your plutocratic masters walk off with the spoils. |
