How old were you when you had your first child?

44 for the 1st. And as "old" as i am, I am usually the one playing with all the kiddies at the playground while the younger moms just sit there looking a little freaked out!

I think this has more to do with your personality than your age, but it's great that you're out playing. I am soon to be 29 with a 1 1/2 year old and I also feel like I'm one of the only Moms on the floor being silly playing with my daughter. I attribute it to having a playful Mom myself. My Mom is now 59 and she is so playful with her grandchildren! She can make up games and things that I would never think of. I wonder sometimes if everyone just thinks I'm weird but it's fun for me to be in the mix with her while she'll still let me! I will say though that other day I was at Cabin John Park and it seemed like alot of the Moms were really interactive as a whole. It was really nice!

I really liked what the PP said about being friends with people who are 10 - 15 years older than her and they are equalized by having their children. Honestly, since I started working I find that age has very little to do with how well I get along with people. I would love if all Moms in the area were so open to each other

Freaked out by what? I'm really curious. I've never noticed freaked out moms at the playground, no matter the age. Maybe if a tot falls off the slide and cracks his head open, moms get a bit freaked then.

I had my 1st at 27, then 30, then 34 so I guess for this area I was a young mom (but maybe not by these responses). My youngest son is 2.5 and really has no interest in playing with me at the playground. We have a group that are the "usuals" and my son is so excited to see his friends he has not interest in playing with mom. I'm happy enough to let him play independently.

Are you kidding?? YOU are the problem - not with young v. old moms, but with the Mommy Wars in general. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Leave her alone, she obviously has some insecurities she's trying to deal with, don't take the bait.

That's my impression, too, but I wouldn't want to leap to conclusions about the poster's psychological state. I also have to ask, though, what could other moms possibly be doing that would lead her to think they were "freaked out"? Frazzled, maybe?
