Tropical Storm Sandy

I'm a teacher and all the kids were buzzing about how we might not have school on Monday. OK, maybe I was buzzing a bit myself.

DH and I just reviewed our getting ready for doom checklist.

Clearing debris out of the yard.
Filling cars with gas.
Washing all clothes and towels.
Charging all electronic devices.
Filling freezer with bags of water to maximize defrost time.
I'm stocking up on water and chocolate.
He's checking batteries.

Now if he could just finish putting the gas grill together!

Thanks PP. I've been filling bags with ice. Filling with water is brilliant.

Yeah... you're going to get wet. Enjoy!

My in-laws are planning to come in Sunday night. Hoping for a reason to keep them away.

IDK you, but I like you. Great minds think alike.

My in-laws are here until the 7th and a blackout can only make things more fun.

I hear ya! Bet it will be hard to find wine and beer at stores .

Last night models showed Sandy making landfall in Delaware. This morning it is southern Delaware. This could be bad.

We've started on the laundry. Inventoried the flashlights. Bought water and chocolate. Defrosting a lovely chicken that I would be very sad to lose if the power goes out.

Still need to secure outside stuff. Could use more water.

Bah humbug.

Same here. I just stocked up on necessary batteries at CVS this morning. Pulled out all the candles this morning. Making a hardware store run tonight for some extra flashlights and an oil lamp. Praying they still have them by the time we get there. We're battening down the outside hatches tonight, too. I hope all of it will be for naught but with PEPCO you can never be too prepared. Last time we were caught with our proverbial pants down.

I'm also going to vacuum all my floors tonight so at least the house is clean before we lose power for God knows how long.

Reposting this because PEPCO can't/won't respond and maybe somebody there is checking these threads:

I wish I would hear PEPCO tell us that residents with the new Smart Meters do not need to call in our outages because they will know instantly whether or not these homes have lost power and when they have been restored.

great idea about freezer with bags of water. thank you!

I got some gallon jugs of water, filled up my car with gas, and have plenty of chocolate.
Great idea to wash clothes and towels....need to do that tonight.

No big deal. Use your phone. Takes 30 seconds.
