Tropical Storm Sandy

...blow right over DC!

Pondering getting a portable generator. Has anyone gotten one and have any recommendations?

I live in Bethesda so I take storm prep seriously. Need to get laundry done by Sunday, dishwasher empty, candles and flashlights ready, gadgets charged, expensive frozen food eaten between now and then, bags of ice stockpiled. We've done this too many times recently. One modest gust of wind=3 days with no power, tropical storm winds = 7 days.

+1 OMFG. I already had $8K in damage from last year's earthquake/hurricane combo. I can't take any more of this BS.

Didn't your insurance cover it?

Praying that it all blows over here, but I am stocking up on batteries, water, boxed milk, and non-refrigerated food tomorrow. Full tank of gas, too. With PEPCO, ya never know...

This is a fantastic idea - boxed milk for coffee! Those little Horizon ones? Where can you buy those, other than Costco?

I'm stocking up on wine.

My in-laws are here until the 7th and a blackout can only make things more fun.

They have them at my local Giant and Whole Foods. They're not by the juice boxes, though; they're off by themselves, usually near the baking goods.

I too am really hoping this storm stays the hell away. I have had it with days-long power outages and trees falling on my house. Go away, shitty weather. I can't enjoy a nice rainstorm anymore because I just listen to the trees creaking and the watch the power flickering and fret.

Well, since we didn't get earthquake insurance b/c we were advised we didn't need it, not all of it. Guess what we have now? Earthquake insurance! But guess what I do not want again? Interior water damage. And I do not want to deal with claims adjustors or roofing and masonry contractors again.

JUST. SHOOT. ME. NOW.

Amen. Thank God I have a bottle of Xanax in my purse, and a full wine chiller.

I'm sorry that happened to you. It really sucks! We had interior water damage during snowmageddon. Hated it!

I agree. My whole life I have loved severe weather - snow, rain, hurricanes, bring it on - until I moved here. Now it's just a big problem. I am so sick of power outages, spoiled food, disrupted lives, bedhead, tree damage, the whole thing.
