+1 OMFG. I already had $8K in damage from last year's earthquake/hurricane combo. I can't take any more of this BS.

Didn't your insurance cover it?

Well, since we didn't get earthquake insurance b/c we were advised we didn't need it, not all of it. Guess what we have now? Earthquake insurance! But guess what I do not want again? Interior water damage. And I do not want to deal with claims adjustors or roofing and masonry contractors again.

JUST. SHOOT. ME. NOW.

Earthquake insurance has ridiculously high deductible (similar to a downpayment on a house), making it only useful if the entire home is destroyed.

OMG me too! We are scheduled to finally move back into our house in 2 weeks after months-long repairs from trees falling on/in my house during the derecho.

At least the contractors are already working on my house this time...

This is a fantastic idea - boxed milk for coffee! Those little Horizon ones? Where can you buy those, other than Costco?

I think PP is talking about the milk that you don't have to refrigerate - like Parmalat. It's very common in Europe.

I know, but after the litany of shit that went wrong with our house in 2011, who knows what could happen? Our agent got us a good deal. It's worth it simply to be able to dial down the anxiety meds a bit!

I assumed they were talking about the shelf stable boxes for kids - Horizon Organic and whatnot. Totally buying some of those before this nonsense goes down because I too can't stand coffee without milk. And I need my coffee! At least if the power goes out I'll still have my gas range and a coffee press.

PP here. Yes, I know. The Horizon ones. Shelf-stable.

Weather Channel is now saying the storm might hit the NE, not the mid-atlantic, but we could get strong winds and heavy rain.

PP here -- yes, Parmalat is what I was speaking of, thank you. I bought some during the derecho to have with cereal. The teen complained at first, but after a day, finally gave in and used it. As someone else said, it's with the baking supplies at Giant or Safeway.

Horizon tastes a HELL of a lot better than the Pharmalot ones.

Are you talking about the individual cartons, or the liter ones? Once the latter is opened, does it remain shelf-stable?

No.

The Post is saying a 30% chance of a direct hit on the DC area which would last from Sunday night through Tuesday. The effects will be severe in this scenario. The Delmarva beaches will be slammed with possibly record flooding. No doubt the eggshell PEPCO will be a mess. 30% chance of this.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capital-weather-gang/post/hurricane-sandy-scenarios-for-washington-dc/2012/10/25/0ebdb0f2-1ec5-11e2-9cd5-b55c38388962_blog.html?hpid=z2

More likely is a hit in NJ to CT which will still bring rain and wind to DC. 45% chance of this.

Computer models at wunderground.com/tropical are still all over the place.

The Marine Corps Marathon is on Sunday morning...any thoughts on how the MCM will be impacted from the storm?

Just got some Giant brand shelf stable milk (6 little cartons) in Bethesda. Wiped out of Horizon (lots of strawberry and vanilla though) and Parmalat only in the large containers. Apparently I was not the first to start stocking up.
