Toddler left at Livingston Park by daycare (FCC?)

Regarding taking kids off daycare property, in Bethesda, I used to always see the kids from Sidwell daycare at Lebanese Taverna for the music shows on Tuesdays. I thought it was great that they used to take them out for that.

I have never heard such a thing as a daycare taking young children off property to places like public parks. It seems like a dangerous liability.

Is this a DC thing?

Very common when the day care does not have its own playground. Where are you from?

All over the country (military). Currently in NOVA. Never, ever heard of such a thing. Ridiculous and dangerous, given the ages of the kids.

This falls into the field trip category: organized, self contained and controlled.

A playground at a public park is none of these things.

There are NOVA preschools who go to public parks. Communikids in Falls Church is one.

It was definitely FCC they put a notice in parents mailboxes explaining that they had an "incident" with "a child who did not return from the park with the rest of the children"

We have a child there - if they lost my child I would own that board.

Have you ever lived in a city? This is common thoughout DC [let me clarify that I am referring to the city as opposed to the region]. Real Estate costs are very high. There is high demand for daycare spots as demonstrated by the waitlists that are over a year long. Many urban families do not have a yard with a playset in it and walking to the park is common even for the youngest children.

Was it a child from Western Ave or 43rd St.? Did you get the notice today?

My nanny was at Livingston Park today with our son. She said that around 4:30 she noticed that there was a little boy who seemed unattended. She said that he was smaller than my son (who is 2.5) and couldn't talk yet. He had no shoes or socks. She thought that maybe the nanny was in the bathroom, but 5, 10, 15 minutes went by, and no one came - and she checked the bathroom and there was no one there. She and her other nanny friend kept an eye on him, but finally they got the park attendant to call the police. After about an hour, someone came running back from the daycare. I assume it was probably Friendship Children's Center, because they very close, and I think they are the only daycare to use the park.

Please thank your nanny and her friend on behalf of everyone who has a child in daycare. The process failed this little boy. It could have been my son (different daycare). I am hopeful that my children never have to rely on strangers - but we all know that there is a chance that something may happen.

What notice? If a child from 43rd st that would be very scary since only infants and 1 year olds are the.

It is heartbreaking to think of how frightened the kid was, alone for an hour, not old enough to talk and just, holding onto a gate for comfort.

In a way, what difference does it make if it was your child or not. The point is that it COULD have been your child just as easily as the one who was lost.

Am I the ONLY one who thinks something about this story doesn't pass the "smell" test???

What do you mean? PPs confirmed that the FCC put out a notice today about the child left behind.
The particulars (father came to the park, day care worker came first, police came, etc) are not particularly important to me.
