favorite bethesda restaurant off the chain gang

Has Freddy's improved? I went there several time in the first 6-9 months of its opening... And it was worse and worse each time! My husband and I had such a terrible experience the last time we were there that we swore it off. But I see a few of you recommending it so perhaps it has gotten better?????

I agree that they sometimes have off nights. Very off nights. But my husband is Lebanese and this is his hands-down choice for Lebanese in the D.C. area.

I wasn't there at the beginning so don't know about that. But I've been there 4 times in the last 6 mos. (3 lunches, 1 dinner with the family) and loved it every time. Great beer selection, friendly staff, and the fried claims are exactly as they should be. The clam chowder is thinner than you see everywhere else but plenty of clams and tastes great. Can't talk about anything other than the clams; I love them so that's all I've had.

I'm from New England so I'm pretty picky; this is spot on. Not cheap, but worth it.

Brasserie Monte Carlo, I forgot about this place. Thanks for the reminder, PP.

Guardados is our default casual date-night restaurant. It has its occasional misses, but our favorites are reliable and the place is cozy and friendly.
I've never been to Mussel Bar for dinner, but their weekend brunch is great (and apparently unknown, as I haven't yet encountered a crowd when we go early).

Jaleo is usually very good.

Though part of a mini-chain, Black's.

Incorrect.
Grapeseed is not part of Black's group of rest.

Freddy's is my new favorite spot. Never mind the food (which is great and the portions are big enough I have leftovers for next day lunch), the beer selection is incredible and well priced.

Brasserie Monte Carlo. I've only been twice but loved it both times. I need to go back.

Flannagan's Harp & Fiddle makes the best Lamb Stew. I always mean to try something else on the menu, and I always end up ordering it again.

Totally agree that Aji-Nippon is great. DH prefers Raku, but I hate it there. It's cramped, packed, and imo over priced.

Is Parker's a chain? I don't think it is one, but it sort of feels like a chain restaurant. Either way, it's DH's favorite place to eat.

Olazzo's is my favorite Italian place. There's only two of them, so I don't count that as a chain.

No it is not, also DH's favorite place.
