While I wouldn't have a problem at all renting to a gay couple, I think it is good that landlords who rent out units in their own house are exempted from the discrimination laws. They should be able to refuse anyone for any reason, and if it's just that they "don't click" with the person. We were contemplating buying a house with a rentable basement, and in hindsight, I'm very glad we didn't. I would have wanted to be very picky with the tenants and would have only wanted people with whom I'm personally comfortable (gayness would not have made me uncomfortable, though, and I agree that OP needs to reevaluate her perspective - especially, she should teach her kids that they shouldn't care about someone's sexual orientation). |
