Uncomfortable with Rental Tenant

You are in fact morally wrong, but legally right. According to the HUD site on Fair Housing at http://portal.hud.gov/hudportal/HUD?src=/program_offices/fair_housing_equal_opp/FHLaws/yourrights:

While I wouldn't have a problem at all renting to a gay couple, I think it is good that landlords who rent out units in their own house are exempted from the discrimination laws. They should be able to refuse anyone for any reason, and if it's just that they "don't click" with the person. We were contemplating buying a house with a rentable basement, and in hindsight, I'm very glad we didn't. I would have wanted to be very picky with the tenants and would have only wanted people with whom I'm personally comfortable (gayness would not have made me uncomfortable, though, and I agree that OP needs to reevaluate her perspective - especially, she should teach her kids that they shouldn't care about someone's sexual orientation).

That - alone - that means you are bigoted. Work on that.

Hmm, sounds like perhaps OP doesn't want to go through the toil of explaining homosexuality to her kids just yet by having such a couple renting their basement. Depending on the kids ages, there could be a lot of questions besides they're just affectionate roommates....

Don't be ridiculous. There's nothing to explain.

OP, you are a hateful jerk and I hope karma comes back to bite you in the a$$.

Better karma than some tenant who is in to that type of thing....
