Uncomfortable with Rental Tenant

Ironic you would say god forbid and he definitely does forbid

Is this a joke? Choose whomever you want or don't want living on your property.

Can't you just do some soundproofing? I wouldn't want to hear anyone else getting it on in my house, gay or straight.

It's your house OP. You don't have to rent to anyone you don't want to rent to and don't owe anyone an explanation.

your poor tenants - you're aware that you have a soundproofing issue and you're continuing to rent?! Please have some respect for your tenants' privacy and soundproof that apartment.

I don't know many gay men, but I would think they're great tenants. Well-dressed, great decorators, clean, and puppy lovers! I wish I have a basement apartment to rent to them.

Agree pp. Ask any local real estate agent. As a group gay men make great tenants. Clean, orderly, great decor, etc. As a landlord, I prefer them to any other group. OP is an idiot.

Recently I interviewed two young men and it's pretty clear that they are a gay couple. I don't have anything against that at all, but I must admit to be a little grossed out by the thought (and likely sound) of a couple of guys shagging each other in my home. From past experience the downstairs apartment is not totally soundproof in that regard.

Will I have a legal problem if I don't rent to them? Am I being unreasonable in being uncomfortable? -- it is my house, after all (and I have a couple of kids).

Why did you rent to them to begin with?

You're so stupid on way too many levels, OP.

I hope they find out what an ass you are, as they'd be better off elsewhere.

Local, state and federla law may disagree, but whatever. This sounds like the same rationale the lunch counter operators used in the 60s. Nice company you keep, PP.

I think Gay men are extremely neat and take care of properties very well, I wouldn't rule them out. If you feel uncomfortable with more than one person living in the home you could just seek single people but there is nothing stopping them to invite their boyfriend/girlfriends over as guests. You may also have less drama and issues with a married couple whether gay or not. There are no guarantees in life, we have had tenants in our property that screen great for the first year but then went off her meds and freaked out the second year and mutually ended the lease early. Unfortunately there is no way to test or ask about psychological issues.

I'd take the case pro bono and keep you so hog tied with a lawsuit that eventually you'd lose your house.

If you are a lawyer you'd no you'd have no case. Individual landlords cannot be compelled to rent to tenants they don't want to rent to. The reason could be they're of another race -- it doesn't matter. Not for an individual landlord. Not justifying this, mind you, but don't claim to be a lawyer when you clearly don't know the law.

The most telling part of your ENTIRE post was the end "(and I have a couple of kids)"

That - alone - that means you are bigoted. Work on that.

Curious why everyone freaks out when OP complains about them shagging, but this sort of stereotyping is accepted without a blink?

Not the poster you are responding to, but the person probably just doesn't specialize in this area of law - they're incorrect, and confused about the application of the Fair Housing Act, but that doesn't mean that they're not a lawyer in some field.

I think I'm gonna need a citation for this.
