Orthodox Jews recognize people as Jewish if their mother is Jewish OR if they have an orthodox conversion - sometime also if they have a conservative conversion, but it depends on the rabbi and circumstances.

OP here, because he was raised as Christian and lived as one for 32 years (though not particularly religious) and 3 years ago he went through the conversion process. My friend and I just got off the phone. I said "I don't really have advice but maybe seeing a counselor would help." and moved on to the next topic. After reading responses here, I decided that I shouldn't even attempt to advise her beyond that.

The majority of the time, you dont have to prove it. It rarely comes up, except when joining a synagogue or getting married and they take your answer at face value, unless there is a specific reason to believe otherwise.

I suppose if you wanted to, you could lie but it wouldnt make you Jewish just bc a rabbi accepts your lie.
