Did you guys discuss the bitch of a father who abandoned his 4 month old during massacre?

I think he ran away because that's the difference between mothers and fathers.

But a male stranger risked his life to protect the woman and her kids. And the make stranger was a childless teen, Jarrell Brooks. I don't think this is a case of moms vs dads. It's selfless bravery vs cowardice.

My husband called him a douche and he never uses that kind of language. Ever.

He even said that he thought about turning back but decided it was too late. Too late?? Are you kidding me? I would run into a burning building if my child was in there. He should be ashamed of himself!

Luckily it was a mild earthquake but it sort of scared me that my first thought wasn't the baby. I'd like to think that my instincts have changed (because the baby was only a few weeks old then) but I hope they are never, eve put to the test.

Also a good read is The Unthinkable: Who Survives When Disaster Strikes - and Why. It goes into detail about different reactions people have had in disasters, like fires and shootings. The Flight, Fight or Freeze responses are pretty powerful, and very hard to overcome.

PP here with "good" crisis reflexes, and I really agree with this and don't think we can take credit for our reflexes at all. Honestly, mine most likely come from my abusive childhood and years of track: I react quickly, am hyper-aware of my surroundings, and have a savior complex. But I wouldn't wish the path I traveled to get here on anyone!

OP, you sounded unhinged in your first post and continue to do yourself no favors with each subsequent post.

Yes, because expecting a father to not abandon his girlfriend and children means you're unhinged.

"unhinged"? a few curse words and some of you get full of yourself, claiming you stayed at a holiday inn, and can start diagnosing people.

im perfectly fine. im not sitting here banging away at my keyboard fuming mad or something.

some of you are so intent on playing gotcha and finding your in to insult or call someone out for god knows what reason.

and even if i was "unhinged", its not for some bat shit reason. im "unhinged" at the notion that someone (man or woman so i hope the bra burning lady doesnt get her her hemp panties in a bunch) would just abandon their family like that.

if you feel i need to sit down and pay a visit to dr. melfi over this, than oh fucking well. ill be that dude who needs to seek medical attention.

Never said anything about disagreeing with the OP's premise, just that he sounds crazy. He can get his point across without his inarticulate screed.

NP here- DH and I did really react to how he reacted.. frankly, a coward and I would have said NO to his proposal. It really showed it was all about him- not a good "family" man.

Sadly, pp, in my anecdotal experience, you are correct. There are many exceptions, but as a rule I think the mothering protective response is virtually reflexive in most women. This is why in most species, the males eat their young. We're not as removed from chimpanzees as we'd like to believe in these fight or flight situations.

That dude was a bitch...or a total pussy.

What's wrong with calling him a self-centered bastard? Seems better than the word bitch.

So the dude was up in the balcony with his family and the shooter was at the front of the theater? So why did the dude jump over the balcony toward the shooter anyhow? Why didn't he just go out the back exit?
