I see Maret over GDS (more structure, I'm guessing) but why Holton over NCS? |
Not that one school is better than the other. I just think that Michelle Obama would go for the culture of Holton Arms over NCS. |
What is the difference in culture? |
Palin's kids definitely go to/ went to public schools. Of course, public schools in Alaska are light-years better than the average DCPS.... |
14:51 (9/3), the only "support" that Obama will show to DCPS will come in the form of gladhanding with teachers unions that support more money for grossly overpaid administrators and incompetent public school teachers. |
Alaska's public schools are light-years better than DCPS? How do you know? Palin's 2 oldest kids don't seem like they faired too well at their Alaskan public school. Neither seems to be headed to college any time soon. |
It is my understanding that her oldest daughter is being home schooled. I do not know what they are doing for her younger 2 children. |
I believe that Barack Obama will definitely send his girls to public school. Carter did and the security was very good. It would send an EXTREMELY bad message to do otherwise.
|
It sent a bad message when the Clinton's chose Sidwell for Chelsea too, but no one seemed to mind. I mean, after all, how could ivy-league degreed parents deign to send their own kids to PUBLIC schools? Apparently, these Dems are fine taking the $$$ from the teacher's unions, and talk a good game about public schools... as long as it's for anyone else's child. |
Why is it a bad message? I was here when the Clintons decided to send Chelsea to Sidwell, and though people agreed it would have been nice to send her to public school, everyone agreed that politician's kids should be off limits and it shouldn't be a political issue where they went to school. My kids have gone to DCPS (now they're in private), but I don't take issue with anyone's decision where to send their kid to school -- it's a family matter and none of our business. And frankly, the majority (not all, so calm down) of DC public schools are really not good -- you really realize it when you switch to a good private. |
Because it just confirms the whole hypocrisy of the (typical) Democrat's position on education. Public is best, the great equalizer, our teachers are so fabulous, more power to the teacher's unions that support the dems, etc. etc. etc. Except for my child, of course. |
Do you have any idea how disruptive it would be to all the other students in a DC public school if any famous person - let alone the President - sent their kids there? A public school in this day and age is simply not equipped to handle that. It's not the same as it was in the '70s for Amy Carter. |
Thank you. You expressed what I have been thinking but in a much angrier way (I was so irritated that I did not post because I did not want to be nasty) throughout reading this thread. |
Agreed -- ALL politicians' kids are off-limits, including Palin's. |
The Obamas are not going to send their children to public school. The closest parallel here to their current school is GDS. Their girls will go to GDS, Sidwell, Maret, or NCS. Michelle would take a look around Holton and say no way. |
