I hope that Obama (or Palin) will show their support for DC public schools. |
I hope so too! That would be amazing for DCPS. |
Oh please! Why should they make their kids guinea pigs for political purposes? For heaven's sake, even the Mayor may not be willing to do that (we don't know yet where his kids are in school this year). |
If they didn't choose Chicago public schools for their girls, why would they choose DCPS? |
Because it would be an amazing symbolic thing to do. That said, I think these decisions are all about security. A school like Sidwell has experience accommodating presidential kids and their security entourages, and ensuring the girls' safety has to be priority number one. And I say this as a fully committed DCPS parent. I never blamed the Clintons for sending Chelsea to private school. |
I'm sure they could work out the security issues, if they wanted to. I didn't know Obama's kids went to private school in Chicago. Do Palin's kids go to private school? |
Obama's kids attend the University of Chicago Lab School. Michelle Obama worked at the University of Chicago. Regardless of the security issues that could be worked out, parents (including the President of the United States) should provide the best education that they can for their children. Education (as with many concerns of child-rearing) is personal and private. I don't think the Obamas need to (or are obligated to) make any political statements by sending their children to DCPS. |
I'm pretty sure we would have heard if they were now in public school. |
Have we heard whether Palin's are in public or private? |
Palin mentioned that she started her public service in the PTA ... so I assume public school. |
Also, Obama had NOTHING to do with the mess that DCPSs are in. |
I'm betting on Sidwell or NCS. The security issues are more complicated at GDS -- it's more exposed and the high school kids have to go out for food because there is no cafeteria. Plus, I suspect the Obamas run tight ship and they'd like a little more discipline. |
Why not DCPS??? |
Because they are not good enough. |
My guess is an all girls schools (probably Holton Arms over NCS) or a traditional/progressive blend similar to the girls' current school (probably Maret over GDS). |
