| Back to the original question .. Red Tomato is about 5 min away and has good sandwiches and salads. Sweetleaf is just a few doors down and I've always enjoyed their stuff, although their parking lot is tiny. Those are the two closest places. There's a Safeway across the street that you could get some subs and drinks as well. |

CJ should be free and open to all. It's not at a neighborhood park. FFX county can pay for its upkeep, just like other jurisdictions pay for destination parks.
For the OP, definitely try the Italian Store. It is worth the ten minute drive. |
Not the PP, but just to clarify: the Safeway is not across the street from Clemyjontri. It is across the street from Sweetleaf/Red Tomato. They are all in the downtown McLean area which is about a 5 min drive from Clemyjontri. Good luck! |
| There is also a Marvelous Market and Chesapeake Bagel bakery in McLean as well as Madison Deli. I would also recommend take out from Moby Dicks or Listranis also located right in McLean. |

Wow, I swear I was just in there! Guess I haven't been paying attention! |

Sigh. Lots of people don't get to live in Fairfax or NW DC or Potomac/Rockville or other affluent neighborhoods with beautiful parks and facilities. A $10 fee like the one at Burke Lake would be prohibitive for lots of people. I think that one could offer a donation box or even charge - as another poster suggested - a nominal fee of $2 per car or something.
I actually live in one of those nice DC / NW parts of town - we use Clemyjontri about once or twice a month for variety sake -- honestly it would not occur to me to want to keep out someone from McLean who came to the Georgetown Waterpark or Guy Mason or one of our other popular parks for variety sake or because they happen to be in that neighborhood! I am European and we loved all of the public parks we have there. It is something that is lacking in most other regions of the US - and I think it's wonderful that this area of the country has so many free public spaces-- why on earth would we want to teach our children to be possessive of "what's MINE!" rather than to share and share alike?! By the way, I think that Fairfax County could have an annual fundraiser for repairs if needed and there would be lots of interest - and I'm optimistic that FUNDS from all of DC/MD/and VA would be welcome at such a thing! |
This type of thinking is why europe is bankrupt and failing |
| PP here. That's actually not why Europe is struggling -and the American mentality of hoarding by 1% of the population is not working in the U.S. either. That's for another thread though. My simple point was that it's great for families and for kids to pool resources and enjoy all of the parks in the area. Despite the fact that Clemynjontri is such a draw, Fairfax is hardly bearing some kind of disproportional burden of overall public space maintenance compared to every other area in the region. |
