Disagree with this. We were at a BH for two years. Our center tended toward understaffing, not over. There was always a use for teachers if numbers were low on a particular day. Never saw people get sent home early.

Hah, you never saw anyone get sent home? Well maybe that's because you are at work and not at the center when it happens.

WOW management sucks and the teachers are treated very poorly, and its a ridiculous thing to be sending the teachers home no matter how much money they have lost over the years beacuse after all the parents pay a great amount of money every month some for two children so its not like the center is not getting any money to pay. And the director Winnie she needs to be let go she has no people skills at all and she acts like she likes the children and that is surly not the case. Im through and I ave been looking for different centers to take my children to

By way of an update, there have been changes at the management and a search is on for a new Director for this center.

Management at WOW (FDA's daycare) has apparently adopted a new policy to the detriment of teacher morale/retention and quality of care. I gather they have teachers working on an "as needed" basis. If children are home sick, otherwise out, or in late/out early, management either (1) calls teachers to tell them not to come in (without pay), or (2) dismisses teachers early (again, without pay). This schedule can be incredibly stressful for teachers, not knowing whether they'll be working the next day and, if so, for how long and what they'll earn. I've already heard some teachers muttering about leaving because of the uncertainty in hours and pay.

The quality of care suffers, too. If a child arrives unexpectedly late one day, he may be routed to a different room because his primary was sent home -- or a "floater" will come in to assume the primary's role. This discontinuity of care is disruptive for the children and may lead to mistakes (e.g., at least one child has gotten the wrong bottle during substitute coverage).

After all the problems WOW had in the opening months with instability and lack of continuity in care, I'm surprised management would adopt a policy that exacerbates these very problems. I'm hugely disappointed. I am considering withdrawing my child unless the staffing policies improve.

Please do so

I heard that CCLC is no longer with this white oak center. Who took over and how is it now?

ECDC took over on 26 September. They are a small non profit and have I think three centers at other federal offices (State Dept & NIH are two of them). Honestly, it's too soon to tell right now. I'm not unhappy by any means. They rehired most of the teachers on a 3 month trial basis. Seems like they are still trying to get some stuff together internally. Externally, things seem okay. Kids are happy and you can tell they are trying really hard to work on communication by sending letters home regularly with the kids.

Thanks! What is your biggest concerns with this center? Obviously communication, but anything else?

When my kid was there it was the teachers-there were a handful of good ones but most of the ones I came across did not seem to have any investment to the kids

I honestly never had any and I still don't. While some people complain about the staff, I've been very lucky with the "teachers" my children have had thus far. There are good ones, and then there are a couple GREAT ones that I love so, so much. From what I understand, ECDC has an amazing retention rate for teachers and from what I was told, they are already offering the teachers a better benefits package. Happy employees make for a better center. Anytme, I've ever had a concern about something, I've been able to go straight to the teacher and discuss it and it always gets better. I've never had an issue with someone not listening to a concern and then taking action to fix it.

I know there have been a lot of complaints about the center and I think the primary issue was communication. I'm hopeful ECDC will turn everything around. It's a beautiful facility and extremely convenient for my family. Right now both my children come home healthy & happy and that makes me happy.

We are at WOW now and very impressed with the beautiful facility, kind and loving teachers and accessible management. We have an infant and a preschooler at the center. They also serve two healthy snacks and hot lunch every day, which is a huge help. The daily reports home are not as detailed as we've seen in other centers, but the kids come home happy, and my 3 year old has lots of interesting stories to report about his day. He is also pointing out letters to us (and writing some!), which is something we have never worked with him on in the past.

I can not find this daycare online. Has the company changed?
