Appalled at husband reaction to nannys life circumstances

Maybe DH's company is only a front for Japanese yakuza? that may explain nanny's humility.

Question for OP - Is your husband actually serious about wanting to fire her because of this?

My nanny is amazing, and we could not function without her. Her husband probably makes more than we do combined. They have luxuries we can't afford! She works because she loves kids (and the position is only part time). Her income is their "slush" fund to travel, buy things for their kids, etc. We love her and wouldn't trade her for anything, regardless of how much her husband earns or why she works.

20;20 - Welcome to D.C.! People who are doing well just have to be plagued by something, according to the frustrated ones!

You will hardly ever hear someone with money tell you much about it. Don't bother trying too hard, OP. Just be glad she wants to be there.

Would you say this is the culture of DC or of DCUM (or neither?)

Hmm... I guess it's too late to return him.

Truly condescending and humiliating from someone who claims to care - BS. I love hearing about families that are truly generous and loving to work for!

Seriously, I think your neighbor is my co-worker. Do you live in MD by any chance?

Op here....hubby cooled off and admitted he was talking crap and apolozied he took the conversation in that direct. He said it "felt weird" (are all men still 8 when it comes to expressing emotions?) but would never actually let her go.

aren't you glad that not everybody is as stupid as you?

signed, nanny whose husband alone makes more than most of the families she's worked for.

what does the nanny look like? is she attractive? he probably wanted to bang her, and now thinks it is off limits.

I love these posts.

You try to defend the "underdog" but eventually throw in income.

You could have made your point w/o mentioning Money Bags. You do realize that, I'm sure.

I thought nannies could make as much as or more than teachers in some cases? Maybe she likes being a nanny and wants the security of her own income (a reason for continuing to work that plenty of women cite.) Why is that so crazy?

because you are a servant. it's not just about working with children - it's about taking orders of people who, in this case, are supposedly 10 layers of status below you. so, in the evening you go to some white tie event with the president and the next morning you are driving traffic the suburbs from your $5 million georgetown house because some 100K making family's dog went missing so they need you to show up early. it's just too much for me to believe - i think some important info here is missing. to top it all - the OP's english also sounds very bad, like from someone with a HS diploma. nothing wrong with that, but just adds to the implausibility of it all.

Well, this certainly tells us a lot about how YOU treat YOUR nanny.

As an in-demand nanny who can afford to be picky abour who I work for, I can say that I have NEVER been treated like a servant. Bizarrely, I actually enjoy being helpful, so I love working in a field where I know that I am making a big impact on the quality of life my MB and DB live, not just providing child care. This week I went to an aquarium and to the beach and hiked along a river and went swimming in it. I also did grocery shopping, meal planning, and cooking, all of which I really enjoy. So there are in fact people who do this job because it is our passion, and families who treasure having a nanny who doesn't view her job as a last resort.

YEP. THAT'S MY FIRST THOUGHT, ACTUALLY.

Whatever, delusional, pathologically lying nannies. So sad, really. No one who has a rich husband works as a nanny, really. Your DH's reaction is weird. But yeah you're gullible to believe this bag of lies from your nanny. Who tells their employer that their husband works for "publicly traded co." What is she being competitive with you? trying to one up you? I've had this experience with nannies before. This type of lie sounds deeply characterological. You think because you googled the guy that this real? Have you met him? Wake up.

This type of word choice sounds deeply ignorant!
