I agree that a hot Krispy Kreme donut is pretty darn good. But as a native New Englander, Dunkin Ds has some pretty good donuts, too. Problem is that down here, the Dunkin'
Donuts are not made in the actual store - they are shipped in from a bakery somewhere and they are not fresh. Up in New England, the donuts are made fresh in the store multiple times a day which makes them a lot better.

They are made fresh at the one on Columbia Pike north of Glebe, btw. They ship to other stores.

Good to know - thanks. We stopped going to the one on Lee Highway in Cherrydale because their coffee was terrible and the donuts are usually either sold out or not fresh.

Love the ones at 2 Amys, but I've only seen one kind there, if that's an issue.

I haven't tried them in years because the last few times I did (and it was a few times because I thought maybe I just kept catching them on a bad day), there were blobs of saturated fat grease on the surface

OK, I am compelled to write back again. I got to thinking about this and revisited the shop this morning after almost 2 years and for kicks, ordered a glazed donut. They looked different than I remembered. Took the first bit and to my delight enjoyed it thoroughly...so next thing I've got to eat are my words!

Bread Unlimited in Bethesda, next to Strossneider. they are fantastic, and inexpensive also. they are made right there, the store opens at 7 and often by 9 they are gone. it has been the early morning Saturday treat for my youngest daughter, unfortunately an early bird. I drive her there at 7 so the rest of the family can sleep (I get a donut too so I can's complain)
