| Go with Vienna - it's just a nicer area period and more convenient to so many places. I don't think the two areas compare. Aren't there trailer parks in Chantilly? I swear I saw one recently with prices in the $40's. This is a no-brainer. |
yes, there is a trailer park neighborhood in chantilly. there are also million dollar homes. South Riding area has a Chantilly address. Don't be such a snob. If a commute makes sense from Chantilly area, and Vienna would add stress to your day to day life in the form of longer drives, I think THAT is the no-brainer. You can have just as fulfilling a life in a Chantilly neighborhood as a Vienna neighborhood. Is the surrounding area in Vienna nicer? Yes. But not everyone prioritizes the surrounding amenities and closeness to other places as you might. If you'd pick to live farther from work to pay more money to live in Vienna because you prioritize access to those amenities, more power to you. But honestly, only the OP and her family can decide what's important to them. |
| What do u do with all your extra Confederate flags in Chantilly when you aren't flying them? |
| Greenbrier resident, if you are still following the thread, can you tell me if you can hear the planes landing/taking off at Dulles? Thanks for all your help. |
we do hear some airport traffic overhead, but nothing that is disruptive to normal life. You just get used to it. I would argue many places in the area have some airport noise, since there are 3 major airports closeby. We aren't right next to the airport, so no, we cannot hear the planes taking off and landing. The area by Dulles Expo Center is loud, but there aren't many houses there. |
OMG! Do people fly Confederate Flags in Chantilly? Well, thanks for the heads up. I'm not the original poster, but this thread has definitely been helpful to me. Maybe I better consider Vienna as well. |
Seriously? You're listening to the trolls? That is an old stereotype. We have seen maybe one in our entire time here. There are idiots everywhere. It's not like the KKK has meetings at the Starbucks down the road. |
| There's a house behind the Magruder's in Vienna that used to fly a Confederate flag. I haven't seen it for the past 6 months or so, though. I think I heard that someone stole it. |
| There are some really nice areas in Chantilly. OP, if you are deciding between Vienna and CHantilly, I would also look in Fairfax City and Reston. |
|
We decided against Reston, but did consider Fairfax City. The problem is, we are not local to the area and do not know anyone living there. We have received a bit of information from various forums about it and it sounds favorable, although the "town" aspect is on a smaller scale than Vienna is from what we understand.
It is difficult to pick an area to live in when you aren't there and you are picking your forever house. |
you really should do a short term rental first, then - maybe 3-6 months. Get a feel for the area and what you want. I know it may not be ideal, but you also don't want to purchase a house, and then decide within a month you hate the neighborhood and area. Too bad you've ruled out Reston - North Reston is really nice. Plus, metro access coming soon. |
Agree with this. It is such a big decision and you would find it so helpful to get a feel for the areas. I don't think Vienna and Chantilly compare at all. |
