Go with Vienna - it's just a nicer area period and more convenient to so many places. I don't think the two areas compare. Aren't there trailer parks in Chantilly? I swear I saw one recently with prices in the $40's. This is a no-brainer.
yes, there is a trailer park neighborhood in chantilly. there are also million dollar homes. South Riding area has a Chantilly address. Don't be such a snob. If a commute makes sense from Chantilly area, and Vienna would add stress to your day to day life in the form of longer drives, I think THAT is the no-brainer. You can have just as fulfilling a life in a Chantilly neighborhood as a Vienna neighborhood. Is the surrounding area in Vienna nicer? Yes. But not everyone prioritizes the surrounding amenities and closeness to other places as you might. If you'd pick to live farther from work to pay more money to live in Vienna because you prioritize access to those amenities, more power to you. But honestly, only the OP and her family can decide what's important to them.
