Do you still use Clorox bleach and Lysol?

What do you use for floors? For tile and wood?

Sheesh.

The joke's on you though -- you are afraid of bleach but your house is full of bacteria.

Actually, a study at VA Tech showed that spraying a surface with vinegar and then spraying it with hydrogen peroxide (on top of the vinegar, or vice-versa) actually killed MORE bacteria than chlorox/bleach.

Apparently, the joke is on you

New poster. I always get all my scientific information from the Michael and Judy Stouffer blog.

Most people don't have access to real science journals, but here's the citation for the study: Bell, K. Y., C. N. Cutter, and S. S. Sumner. 1997. Reduction of food borne microorganisms on beef carcass tissue using acetic acid, sodium bicarbonate, and hydrogen peroxide spray washes. Food Micro. 14(5): 439-448.

Am I the only one who doesn't "disinfect"? I don't use bleach and I don't use vinegar. I don't disinfect my cutting boards etc. beyond normal washing. I clean my counters, sink, etc. every day of course but usually with soap and water or a spray cleaner. About once a month with Comet.

My point earlier is that people are so weird about perceived "unhealthy" things and they don't make rational choices about them.

Of course not all bacteria are bad. But if you are cleaning food preparation surfaces, for example, and you choose a product that's not effective because you perceive that it is "healthier," you are making a poor choice.

I'm all for reducing unnecessary chemicals in the home but let's be smart about it.
