No issues means no issues. I'm 44 now and I think if the sky were going to fall in on me just because I do not claim to be black. I don't consider it "passing" this is simply who I am.

OP here, For those people that say "I want a minority in the mix" do you not consider Asian a minority? Because I do. And yes, I have experienced racism in many forms.

If you have children with a non-biracial white man and those children do the same, one day would someone be surprised to have a black child out of the hidden black genes?

Yeah, I do too. Was very surprised to see that people don't think Asian is a minority. Last time I checked, it most certainly is.

Maybe, maybe not. I think the "black" gene would be recessive but its not hidden or secret. I am married and do have children, and if the scenario you describe should happen, I don't think there would be a surprise at all if they look at the family tree. How often does that ever happen anyway? I've seen reports of a few cases but nothing to cause concern.

If I understand you correctly, you look white. You look like a white woman with no color, ala Jennifer Beale and Vin Diesel. Therefore it is quite easy to say you are white. However, I don't think you would get away with that if you had color in you, such as Halle Berry, Barack Obama, Tiger Woods, Alicia Keyes. I know that both Black and White people would react differently with them saying they are white.

You are correct, you are free to choose whichever race that preference you. That does not mean that other people will necessarily accept becuas that is what you choose. Do you really think Barack could have said he ws white and the media, the other politicians, and the American people would not have been all over him. He would have been at the very least labeled a denial.

Biracial people really can't catch a break. I look white or hispanic even though I'm black and white. When I say I'm black or go to black events, people give me the side eye and act like I'm intruding. But if I had just gone about my business and didn't talk about being black, people would think I was trying to "pass."

OP, I'm sure you've experienced racism, insensitive remarks, stupid questions, etc. repeatedly. Could you share any examples of how racism has affected your life in a big way (i.e., employment, housing etc.).

I'd like to emphasize that I'm not trying to insinuate anything - that your experiences with racism are less devastating than those of people with AA features or anything like that. I'm white and am genuinely wondering about how your life has been affected. Thanks!

I am wondering if the DCUM crowd differentiate among the Asian groups in determining if a certain group is no longer carry minority status. Have Chinese, Japanese and Korean Americans become the new Irish and Italian in that they are no longer minorities. However southeast Asians are still minorities. When does a group leave the minority status and become a part of the majority.
