can those of you who use crock pots give me details? which type and how large? I am beginning to look into getting one to prepare some good, easy comfort food this winter. do you use yours a lot or are they just another appliance that sits around? TIA! |
++1 I'm looking forward to reading some real supper ideas! I'll post last weeks menu at our house. Sunday: We always go out to eat right after church. In the evening, everyone just grabs snacky type food. Monday: Beef Tips over rice (crockpot) and salad. Tuesday: Tacos and re-fried beans Wednesday: Chicken Casserole and salad. Thursday: Chili (deer meat), cornbread, and fruit salad. Friday:We ordered pizza! Saturday: Breakfast for supper. |
| Good grief. DCUM posters are even competitive when it comes to dinner menus. I thought it was just their DC's test scores. |
| After seeing all of the gourmet meal plans posted on this thread it makes me wonder who are all of the people that I see in the restaurants, take-out lines and fast food joints in the area. They must be the bad moms.... |

| I suppose you all use the good china, fine linens and polished silver on weekdays, too. This is all a little too June Cleaver for me. I imagine you all in an apron, waiting for DH to get home from work. The rest of us have a life. |

Boy - some pps seem jealous.
I posted before and with a little planning ahead these things can be done. Meals planned for the week, shopping on the weekend and pre-preping what you can on the weekend. Crock pots are very helpful. Pre cook and freeze rice (for sides), pre prep a casserole then freeze. Thaw while you're gone during the day and cook in the evening. Even better, cook casserole on weekend, freeze then reheat on day you need it. I did mexican baked chicken on a Monday and made extra. That chicken was chopped up and became chicken enchiladahas on Wednesday. Leftover Chili on Tuesday became chili-mac on Thursday. |
| Not jealous. Incredulous. I guess it is a matter of priorities. Shopping and cooking ala 1960 is not my idea of a good use of time.. |
My DH is the one that does the cooking 90% of the time. He enjoys it. I enjoy eating healthy and tasty food. |

Did I read ELK meat? And DEER meat? And (not that I want it) where do you get that? Don't tell me DH hunts.
OMG We're having DiGiorno's frozen pizza and a salad tonight. |
This is me. Monday and Tuesday, my mom was here and made us dinner both nights. Wednesday, I made this but green curry is really easy and I prepped everything around 1pm while DC was napping. Bok choy and shiitake mushrooms came in our CSA share so we had them on hand which is why I made them. Thursday: DH made dinner - spaghetti squash was in our CSA share as was the salad stuff. Pasta sauce from a jar, meatballs were frozen from Trader Joes. Friday we had potato leek soup - potatoes and leeks came in CSA share, broth was made by my mom on Monday, and again, I prepped everything while DC was taking his afternoon nap. I go grocery shopping about once a week and generally plan meals around what we get in our CSA share. I also do all of my prep for dinner while DC#1 is at preschool and DC#2 is napping so when it comes time to make dinner, it hardly takes any time because everything is ready to go. |
No one in the 1960s would have eaten some of the stuff I've seen posted here. We ate real food back then.
We have a freezer full of deer meat. My dad killed the last buck, but yes, most of the men in our family hunt. The only ones who don't would if they lived closer to the family land. |
