Favorite candy or other treats for Halloween?

Don't you know, the candy is actually for mom and dad. Every parent I know, my husband and I included, let the kids have some for a week or two, "sort" out all the good stuff, and throw away the junk. It is a win/win for everyone

yeah right fat ass, you don't have the self-control to have any candy in the house, ain't that the truth?

One word: CHOCOLATE. And don't try to slip us any of the cheap stuff either. Hershey's products are much better than Nestle or Mars. But Snickers, Reese's peanut butter cups, and m&ms are all appreciated too. Plain Hershey bars (mini size) are fine for those with peanut allergies, per a friend whose 2 kids both have allergies. Personally, I don't bother eating anything that's not chocolate, nor do my kids (take after me I guess). Caramels are an exception, or an occasional candy corn for old times sake.

We like the mini playdoughs, silly bands, pencils, halloween character rulers/bookmarks, glow in teh dark bracelets, bubbles, etc.

please don't-all goes in the trash

I agree.

I'd rather my son eat a hershey kiss than play with the trinkets from OT! Or a pencil? Seriously??

The motion is duly passed... No trinkets. PLEASE!

If you want to stay away from candy, do pretzels or goldfish packets.

I agree. I'd prefer candy, but if you want to do something else, stick with bags of chips or Goldfish.

The trinkets don't last long anyway and just end up in the trash.

I buy the cheapest junk
based on what my kids bring home, so do most of the neighbors
Of all things in the world, I am not going to buy more candy than I give out.
and after a few days, I throw all of it in the trash. Do not want that junk in my house

For the person who was asking about gluten in playdoh, the flour from the playdoh gets on the table and their hands, plus whatever rollers and knives he uses to cut it and roll it. This is stuff that can make them sick for days if he gets even an 1/8 of a teaspoon of it in his mouth. I don't want to risk my child's health for a stupid 1/4 cup of playdoh that I can easily make gluten free on the stove. So yes, it goes in the trash. Just like I wouldn't pour a bag of nuts on a nut-allergic child's head and say, oh, but he shouldn't eat them. Same thing.

LOL! To the bolded part: Hershey SUCKS big time compared to some real quality chocolate in this world. Hershey IS the cheap stuff - quality wise!!! Unfortunately people are not going to give out Swiss or Belgian or German chocolate on Halloween, but it would be nice to give out real chocolate instead of high fructose corn syrup.

Q: What are the ingredients of a Hershey's bar?
A: Actually, the answer should be "Chocolate: Hardly any." An actual Hershey's chocolate bar only contains between 4% and 10 % chocolate. The rest of it is sugars, emulsifiers, milk solids, and other fillers.

From Hershey's website (!!) :
"Dark chocolate has no official “standard,” or definition in the U.S.
Milk chocolate must contain at least 10 percent chocolate liquor to meet the U.S. standard of identity."
AKA: Standards are incredibly low!

In contrast, a serious dark chocolate bar will contain anywhere from 65 percent to 85 percent cacao.
Most kids don't like dark chocolate, but good quality bars of milk chocolate should still contain 30-35% cacao! Good luck trying to find that in any of our great brands here.

Since high quality chocolate is ridiculously overpriced just for the US consumer - at least buy chocolate that does not have CORN listed as its first and main ingredient!

Happy Halloween!

LOL 19:45 - do you give out 80 percent cacao to your trick or treaters, then? Actually, I'm with you - I hate HFCS, etc, but I don't know any kids who eat (real) dark chocolate without crying about the injustice they've been subjected to. Real dark chocolate can be many things but it's actually not often sweet. So, you're maybe just as mean as the folks who give out toothbrushes!

As for halloween, I give out the crowd pleasers. I used to do nestle stuff, but now I'm anti nestle because of their sketchy behavior in third world countries. And I love peanut butter cups, but my best friend's son has a major major peanut allergy and now I'm converted to no peanuts for kids I don't know, since I'd like for all kids (not just the non-allergic) to get some fun at halloween time.

Bring on the candy!!!!!!!
