Just over $1400/mo for a 2.5yo in a center in NW. He's there between 40-45hrs/wk.

I looked at 4 other centers, in NoVA and DC before choosing this one, they were all within $150/mo of each other. I only looked at NAEYC accredited with a strong preschool curriculum though.

$303/week for 12 month old in Annandale.

$265/week for a 16 mo in Alexandria, VA (Fairfax County). It is $275/week for an infant. This is a fantastic in-home daycare that we love.

Until the Spring we were paying about $1100 per kid for 3 year old twins at an awesome center in DC subsidized by a university. We switched to camps for the summer so we wouldn't be paying for daycare while on vacation - we saved $700, but I don't know if it was a good decision or not frankly. It made fo tons of adjusting over the summer. Now the twins are in public preK - I'm doing the happy dance and checking our bank balance 6 times a day just for the fun of it.

$2,200 per month for one infant and one 3 year old at small day care center in Germantown.

$1600 for two kids

preschool tuition (He's in school while I work PT.) and a nanny for morning care/drop off (My daughter is in school FT, but I'm not factoring in her tuition.)

15 hours/week for our nanny
about 17 hours for preschool

About 1850 per month for nanny share for 6 month old (nanny watches one other child) in NW DC. This rate was pretty comparable to the NW DC centers we looked at.

$1750 for a toddler in NW DC - I'm going to print this for my DH who is always complaining about what we pay. Glad to know we're at the low end of the DC scale!

Before moving away from the DC area this summer we paid almost $1900/mo for after school care and FT preschool/daycare. Now we pay about $900/mo for after school care and FT preschool/daycare.

I wanted to add, since someone brought it up, that she's American, had several years experience before us, and drives the kids in her own car. We don't pay for health insurance, but we compensate her for gas, and she does jave one week off of her choosing, so we have to pay her replacement then. She has sick days, too but she hardly ever uses them, and DH or I can usually cover for her. I think we are probably getting a deal.

How many hours a week does she work for the 1200? Are her living quarters separate?

She works 50 hours per week. She has a private bedroom in the basement and a bathroom she only has to share when we have overnight guests.

Ouch.

Why "ouch"? Assuming she works FT, that's 40 hours/week, plus an extra hour a day - time to get to and from daycare, no doubt. That's pretty standard.

But I'm guessing you were just tossing some judgment into the thread. Very nice of you.

That's very reasonable. We're looking for someone to live-in or live-out and have the same setup for a provate bedroom in the basement. How did you find your nanny?
