How much do you pay per month in child care ?

OP here. Thanks everyone for your responses. I live on the Arlington/McLean border. I would need 50 hours per week once I go back to work.

You mean $350/week, right? That would be pretty standard for a 12 month old. $350/month would be a good deal - probably too good to be true.

385/week for an in-home daycare in Bethesda for an 18 mo old. Soon to be $350/week in a center in Rockville. Will go down to $275ish/week once we move to the 2's.

We pay about 2K give or take for 2 kids in daycare in Arlington. That is for 3 days a week. We're one week away from public K for our oldest and I can't wait!

I paid $400/week (including taxes) for my infant in a nannyshare for 42.5 hours/week in Arlington. I thought it was standard for the arrangement: paying taxes, experienced nanny, age of my child, and location.

No "probably"about it, you are getting a hell of a deal!

Seems a bit on the low side for inhome care, but is it licensed? And where in Fairfax? I wouldn't call it a "hell of a deal."

Five days a week from 8:30 until 3:00 at Bethesda Country Day is approximately $1,200 (can't remember new rate for this new year).

$1100/ month in a nanny share, 45-50 hours a week. The other family has two kids, so they pay more.

OP remember that not all nannies are created equal. Legal resident, citizen, or illegal? Are you offering health insurance or no? I think it's impossible to compare nanny expenses unless you know these details. We had a nanny for about a month before we realized that the healthcare end of it just sent us way over our budget. And we felt it was immoral to not offer healthcare to the person who would be taking care of our child. We are thrilled with daycare in NW DC for 1550 per month.

good point by the PP; i am the poster of this rate and our nanny is 28, american born, legal and we pay her legally. Not a ton of experience, but has nannied a lot since graduating from college and is working towards a child-health related field. she has her own car.
