Unpainted toe-nails like going out in your underwear?

I often see women on the Metro heading to work at the library of congress or someplace in the hippie sandals with these natural toenails, carrying a canvas bag advertising the local public television station. I think to myselves -- she's a really great person, I'm sure -- probably recycles, spays and neuters, composts, supports WETA but man, get a pedicure already or cover up those hoofs!

Thank you! So true and I am glad you are so honest to say this and make us all laugh.

To the poster whose husband is getting laser treatment for his toes - what doctor does he go to get this?

I've had awful toenails thanks to picking up a fungus at a pedicure salon. Nothing over the counter has helped, so I have to wear closed toed shoes in public year round. I can't take the oral medication, so other methods are of great interest. I would love to be able to wear cute summer shoes again!

As for upkeep - toenail polish doesn't wear off nearly as fast as fingernail. You can put on a coat of clear that will last for weeks but make you look more...polished.

My gay male friends are like that.

The tacky scale, from least offensive to most offensive:

5. Full pedicure
4. Well-maintained, healthy unpolished toenails
3. Chipped toenail polish in a normal color (pinks, reds, etc)
2. Toenails painted green, or blue, or anything neon
1. Visible bra straps

Why also should I feel the pressure to apply a polish made out of who knows what chemicals (generated as part of some surely environmentally unfriendly process) to my body just to make other people happy? It is easy to keep your nails trim and well manicured without the use of chemicals or polishes. I buff them instead of polish.

I agree that people should be "free" to go around with naked feet, but you are way over the top.

I've never gotten a fungus from a pedicure.

And just know that by the time you're due, you won't be able to see your feet - let alone bend over to buff them w/o going into labor.

wow! Re-arguing a post from 2 years ago!

Are we bored debating SAHM and bfing already?

Anything clean and neat and healthy-looking is fine with me--painted or not. Dirty long toenails, which you cannot cover up with polish, are gross.

I grew up on the beach, so we never painted our toenails--the paint would chip off in in a day. But, our feet looked awesome, probably because all the sand pumiced away callouses and such.

Dr. Deena Charney, according to the RX label for the lotion.

The treatment and the shoe zappers are not cheap (I don't know how much, as he paid for it, not me) and not covered by insurance. But DH is really happy with it.

This is the first year in a long time that I haven't yet gotten a pedicure. Toenails are bare but trim and clean. I like the way my toes look even though I am one who once felt "naked" if my toenails weren't painted. And, I wear open-toe shoes/sandels to the playground, pool, etc. Last fall, after wearing a dark raspberry polish for most of the summer, I realized the dark polish had stained my toenails a dark yellowish-brown. It took most of the winter for the toenails to completely grow out. After living through that icky, unattractive staining, I love how fresh and healthy they look now! I expect I will treat myself to a pedicure soon (with a pale pink polish only!), but I am in no hurry. I am more looking forward to the relaxation/pampering experience than the end result (i.e., painted toenails). Happy summer to all -- whether you paint toenails or not!

Wow. I feel the exact opposite. I hate seeing bright pink or red or orange polish in sandals. So loud and out of place

But this resurrected post seems to have helped one of the PPs below. There's something to be said about that.

When I see a post like this one, I think ill-mannered bitch.

Agree with the PPs who said it's the long toenails that are most disturbing, esp. the "french pedicure". Give me unpainted and short anyday over that!
